Maman the new bathroom will be lovely and hopefully well worth the disruption.
I think the buffing referred to the more abrasive type, like the salons use before gel polish, but I remember from my QVC watching days (when I was ill and spending time housebound) that Leighton Denny used to say buff only every 2 weeks or so and that was with his very gentle Duplex buffer, so I guess that, like so much in life, moderation is the key.
LL pleased that you not only survived Alton Towers, but had a lovely time with your grandson, lots of smiles and giggles from him hopefully.
Coffee break over, back to the gardening, just dog and me, with frequent visits from a little Robin, whose chest has not gone completely red yet, so sweet. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
I meant to say.......
Yes, to the buffing but not the abrasive ones. Just the soft pad type. It does help stimulate blood flow bringing nutrients to the nail and is beneficial. The abrasive ones used in salons or for home use to smooth out ridges should be used very sparingly. I don't even bother trying to smooth out my ridges now. A good base coat works pretty well.
Right skip now done with all the big heavy stuff. Well worth paying a labourer to do it. He was so quick. Typical builders labourer, small but wiry and strong as an ox. Looked like a puff of wind would blow him over .....but he managed everything himself. Saved the boys and I a lot of time.
Time for a quick spruce up then I'm off out.0 -
Ps my plumber sub contracts waste removal. He often lets me pop a few extras in with the load. The thing is you do have to be careful to use a proper licensed carrier and not some Johnny Come Lately who might fly tip the lot.
Nowadays we can be liable, pleading ignorance is no excuse, they are trying to tighten up now. If they can trace the owner of the rubbish then they will be charged too.
BBQ just been postponed, apparently we are in for a deluge Quite relieved really. I'm shattered. I'll cook myself a nice easy curry and call it a day. I've got a couple of new books and loads of catch up tv to watch. I'm happy.0 -
Good Morning Fabulous People!
Well, I won't be getting a job as a hand model!.....I thought my nails would grow, not being at work, but they have just crumbled on the endsI will be taking all advice on oils, buffers etc. On the plus side, I have found that layering the £1 nail polish from Poundland with a pearlescent that I already have, has made it a much nicer colour
I ran out of face cream during the week. I used to have a nice stash of face cream, but when DS1 had his gf staying with us, I noticed it diminish......it has either been 'used' up, or I have hidden them.
I did find a very small, expensive pot from Clarins, which I was 'saving'......(What For?!). It has started to dry out  So, I mixed in some cheap Boots stuff and it worked really well to thin it down.
I checked out Lidl toiletries when I was in there yesterday. They have Olay face cream for £5, their own posh cream for £3.50 and ordinary face cream for £1.50. Their own make serum was £3. This may be of interest......I shall be heading back when the Clarins is finished.
I need to remember the poem about regretting not using the 'pink, rose candle, that melted in storage', and start using the things I hoard.
Have a fabulous day0 -
Good morning lovely ladies.
Definitely no more "saving stuff for best". We deserve the best, here, now.
I've read good things about Lidl serums. I am not familiar with Lidl at the moment.....my nearest is across the city but they are opening one up near to be quite soon.
When we had our apartment in Spain I used Lidl a lot. They did great beauty products. Aldi is also good too.
I admit to liking Clarins though, love their Beauty Flash Balm. Gives a nice rosy glow so great in the winter. Superdrug do a cheaper version but I didn't like it as much. I think if you really love a product and it works better than its competitors then it's worth sticking with it. I have a small change jar. I just chuck my change in there. It soon mounts up and I use it for treats such as premium products.
Another week begins.......have a great one.0 -
I'm with you both on not keeping stuff 'for best'. I'm gradually working my way through toiletries and cosmetics and replacing them with favourites from my preferred ranges. Your 'change pot' idea reminded me that I have quite a lot of points on my Boots card LL. While the shopping experience, for cosmetics, is better in John Lewis or Debenhams it's usually better value for money to buy stuff in Boots and get the points. It's one of the better loyalty cards.
Thanks for clearing up the buffing question maddie. I've been using the buffer that polishes the nails not the sanding block! I've found the only think to do when the tips of my nails get flaky is to keep cutting them back elf. Then I pamper the short nails with lots of oil and hand cream. I haven't painted mine yet (other than clear, nail hardener) but I do have a white pencil that I put under the tips to give a French manicure look.
We've been up and about early this morning to have a last use of the old bathroom. So I'm all showered, hair done and trying to spend my day productively away from the plumber.:)0 -

I agree. I have always stuck with a skincare regime and I think the reason for that is because I enjoy the products I use, regardless of the price range. If money is an issue, cut back in other areas.
A few years ago, I had a clear out of my toiletries and had to throw away some expensive items that had gone 'off' due to not being used. So, I made sure that I used the rest up ( the savings made on not having to buy toiletries, meant extra treats elsewhere!!!).0 -
I just had a shower, did a hair treatment and redid my nails with clear nail varnish.
I liked the Garnier range at first but my hair keeps going frizzy. I think it might be the humid air.
I was thinking of trying the Aveda cherry almond conditioner next. I have been to their salon once ages ago and quite like their stuff. It's quite pricey, though.
My husband is working nights starting tonight so I usually do some pampering as I have to stay up half the night in case my dogs need to go out to the garden!
I'm going to use my Aztec clay face mask (completely forgot I had that as it was at the back of the drawer) shave my legs, use body lotion and a rich face cream afterwards.0 -
I used to really like the Clarins flash balm. I just checked and they have a new vegan range at Clarins now.
It says the range is for vegans aged 18-25 years old. How rude!:rotfl:2025 GOALS

Hi All - just caught up with you all!
The kitchen units are in and the worktops fitted, just waiting now for DH to plumb in my sink and fit the hob.....then I can make a start on loading my cupboards back up. Not a job I'm particularly looking forward to though.
My nails are improving with regular creaming/oiling and filing. I had a nice little surprise yesterday - I'd hung on to a pair of cut off's for a couple of years that I love & were much too tight. I tried them on as Ive lost some weeight and they fitted beautifully. I've not been dieting per se, just cutting down on carbs generally as I've been told I'm pre-diabetic. I havn't missed anything as I still have my slice of toast (multi grain) and swapped to wholemeal pasta where possible, just small changes and cut down on the snackingDS1 is type 1 diabetic so I'll get him to test me & see if there's an improvement
Bought another pot of the Aldi caviar creme that was recommended on here, I like the texture and its factor 15 so I'm happy with thatSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
