Well I'm all set and sorted for the skip, can't wait to get rid of all the clutter and junk. I'm also going to see if the YMCA want my exercise bike and elliptical trainer. Get rid of them too.

Less is more. Looking forward to lots of lovely space.

Alton Towers tomorrow......my idea of hell on Earth.:rotfl:

I'll just take my grandson on the baby rides and stroll through the gardens whilst the youngsters scare themselves silly. The other grandmother will probably join me, don't know about grandfather. Don't know how much of a daredevil he is. He certainly enjoyed the dancing last night. :D.
  • Yes I think girls can be mean, I think my DD was a bit of a target as she is very bright and always loved learning so her lack ability at sport was something they could be spiteful about. She always got on better with the boys at school, maybe having 3 brothers had something to do with it. I think we were lucky, the only worry we had was bullying from other girls but gradually her confidence grew and she dealt with that.

It is a shame your son felt he couldn't do dancing. My husband was a trained dancer but gave up at 18 as his ambitions were elsewhere and one of my sons did dancing from 3 till about 12 when he had to make choices with sports. I think dancing gives such poise. I can't dance but I could with my husband, I just relaxed and people always thought I could waltz, quick step, fox trot or whatever but it was just that I had complete trust in him and it worked. Shame he can barely put one foot in front of the other now. Isn't it a good job we don't know what we have in front of us, it is hard to imagine it when I look at photos of him as a teenager doing high kicks, lifting girls above his head or leaping into the air, how would he have felt if he had known he only had 20 or so years of anything like normal movement to look forward to.

    Well that was cheerful!

Ah bless you both. I know it's hard for you.

As you say, maybe it's a good thing we don't know what lies ahead. I still struggle with looking at photos of my husband.

I destroyed all the photos taken when he was ill, I simply don't want to be confronted with those images ever again. I just want to remember the good times.

My husband loved dancing too, he wasn't much good but he enjoyed himself. A bit like the guy in Four Weddings........more enthusiasm than skill. :rotfl:

Better to have good memories than bad photos.

That's very true. I'll remember that when I'm sorting out the family photos that I keep avoiding. :o

I've decided that I will buy the Clarins serum again, because I'm worth it. :D But to be a bit more mse :money: I'm going to get back to using the flaxseed oil on days when I'm not doing much and have time to let it soak in. :)

My nails are growing nicely. I'm taking care of them. I've just filed them and put Sally Hansen hardener on and loads of handcream. :)
  • My nails are still shocking, you only have to look at them and they break. I am using almond oil to massage them every night and they look better, got a bit of a shine but still so fragile. I guess it is going to take months for them to regrow and hopefully get back to normal.

I was supposed to be going to our nearest city for a bit of a chill out day (no GC) but I'm not feeling great. I think we have a storm coming and I feel a bit sick and think I might have a migraine coming. Just had a cuppa, some painkillers and going to go for a little walk to see if a bit of fresh air can sort me out. Fingers crossed.

Hope you're feeling better soon humpty.:) I have sinus problems which are affected by air pressure so I can empathise.:(

I cut my nails back very short after the last lot of shellac. I did a lot of oiling and buffing too. I'm using the Sally Hansen just because I have it 'in stock' as part of my move to use up products. I'm wearing it on its own at the moment but I might try painting a colour on top as it can be used as a base. :)

Clearing out the bathroom (plumber starts on Monday:eek:) is no bad thing as I've been through everything in the cupboards and on the shelves so that everything that stays is needed.

My DH is no dancer but he knows I love it so he does his best but all he can really manage is a bit of 'dad dancing' at weddings and parties. I remember some friends taking us to Blackpool Tower for a coffee and watching the dancers (people go there to practise or have lessons) and my feet were itching to join in. Unfortunately DH can't really do ballroom dancing (he can just shuffle on a crowded floor when needed) and his elderly uncle would have partnered me but he was too infirm. :(

My Scottish dancing is my first love and DH is very supportive of me keeping up with this although he doesn't join me. It's no bad thing that we have separate hobbies though as well as doing things together. :)

My new dress from Nobody's Child arrived today. I'm really pleased with it. It's a wrap around and what I like most is that there's a generous amount of fabric so it doesn't feel like it'll gape open when I wear it. It's black and white so not too summery a colour which means with leggings and perhaps a camisole or long sleeved top underneath I could wear it in other seasons. I'll try it on again but I'm hopeful it'll be a keeper.

Nothing very exciting happening today. I'm having another pottering day. I want to iron the cushion covers from yesterday, do a bit of batch cooking and possibly a bit more decluttering. Yesterday I cleared/shredded some old correspondence and took 2 bags of 'stuff' to the CS. I'm slowly getting rid of travel books as these days we just Google 'Things to Do' when we're away so they're not needed any more.

Have a good day all, whatever you're up to.:)

Hi lovely ladies, I read every day, but not been posting, I would like to try and join in a little more often if I can.

I watched a programme on Ch5 late the other evening, it had the very eyebrow raising title of The Million Pound Hand Job!

It was about hand models, the top ones, the wannabes and the agencies, I tried to watch again on catch up, but it seems I have to disable Adblocker on Chrome and cannot be fussed. It was fascinating though and showed shoots for high end jewellery, cosmetics, perfume, nail polishes etc where the "face" of the product is the main feature in the frame, but with the hand models hands holding the products, but remaining unseen.

One of the main agency owners was interviewing a rather gorgeous young male model who had aspirations to be a hand model too. She told him to eat lots of oily fish and olive oil and to massage olive oil into his hands, nails and cuticles often and that buffing should only be done very rarely as it weakens the nails.

I have various oils for face, massage etc as well as that marketed as cuticle oil so I am keeping a bottle by my chair in the sitting room, on bedside table and near the bathroom basin, I live in hope of having decent nails again at some stage.:)

    Good morning lovely ladies.

Well I survived Alton Towers. Fun but exhausting and of course not the best food choices in theme parks so I feel a bit bloated and somewhat jaded this morning. Don't think it will have done any damage to the diet though although I feel like a could drink a lake dry this morning. (One of my mum's sayings.:rotfl:) My skin feels parched.

Walked around 13k steps, strapped up my knee to try avoid aggravating it. It aches a bit but no more than usual so no harm done. I'm just a bit tired and back achey this morning so going to be gentle with myself. A nice long soak in the bath should do the trick.

The skip is here. My builders son is going to make a start loading it this morning. I won't be lifting anything. It will be here for around 3 weeks so I can take my time. I can load the lighter items whilst a combination of hired help and my boys can do the heavy lifting. I'm going to make the most of it and ensure that all that surplus stuff, junk and clutter is gone for good. That will feel so good.

Can't explain it but I feel like it's the last link with that awful period of grieving and sorrow. Time to move forward and embrace my new life.

SI A TODO. Yes to Everything!!!! It's working.:rotfl:

There will still be some smaller stuff to part with, stuff to sell, paperwork, photos and I will continue refining my wardrobe but that is ongoing and no great burden. I can do that without a skip.

Maman. Good luck with your bathroom renovations. How exciting.

I have now transferred everything to the new wardrobe and the monstrosity in my bedroom is being dismantled today. I notice the walls aren't perfect but tbh I don't want to go to the hassle of replastering at this stage so I'm thinking of having wallpaper in this bedroom. Makes a real departure for me because I normally prefer plain walls so I can ring the changes more easily. But there are such pretty papers these days and of course you can always go for "self coloured" papers or textured paper rather than coloured patterns.

Maddie.....that programme on modelling sounds interesting. Oddly enough I've always had quite nice hands, slender with long fingers (artistic :rotfl: ) one of my better features. Lol. My nails are good and strong and grow like weeds but I do have to watch my cuticles. They can get sore in winter and split if I don't take good care of them. My nails do have ridges now but thats an age thing.

The birthday celebrations continue today with a family BBQ. Another day of no cooking for me. :D

    Have a great day.

Good to see you posting Maddie.:)

That's interesting what you said about buffing nails. I always thought it was stimulating for nail beds but totally agree with the oiling. I think just about any oil will do but olive oil is cheap and readily available so I can see why that would be suggested.

I've used the flaxseed oil instead of serum today as I'm not planning to go out. As our bathroom facilities will be limited for a while I'll probably be using serum as it's quicker an easier. We have a cloakroom but otherwise it'll be a trip to DD's home (less than a mile away).

I'm not sure if we're having a skip LL or the plumber is taking stuff away in his van. I know removal of rubbish is part of the contract. I think it's a brilliant idea to toss other rubbish in the skip while it's there.

I thought of you yesterday at Alton Towers. Glad you survived.;) It's possible that DH and I might have a few days out while the plumber's here just to leave him to it. If so, we won't be going to a theme park!:D

Yesterday I did iron and put back all the cushion covers so it's loose covers next. This will probably go on hold for a while as not sure how often water might be switched off. DH is dreading it but it'll soon be over. I hope he doesn't find it too traumatic as I have plans to do more.;)
