We are just back from our New Year in Scotland and we had a wonderful time
I was really pleased with my outfit choices and felt suitably glamorous - I even managed to keep my high heels on for the whole ceilidh although I had put a pair of flatties in my handbag just in case. My husband is not really a dancer but we met up with some lovely people at the hotel and at one point I was being twirled vigorously around the floor by a 6ft 4 in Scottish man in a kilt and had to really concentrate on keeping my balance :rotfl: it was such good fun
I was definitely one of the youngest women there and one of the things that struck me was how lovely many of these older women were - they had such spirit and such a sense of fun. We became good friends with several of the couples there and a couple of the women were definitely in their early 70s but they still had that sense of mischief and enjoyment of life. They were elegantly dressed and well-coiffed but in the end that counts for nothing if you don't have a warm and kind personality and can't engage with other people around you.
As I get older, I am determined not to focus on the wrong things in my life. The women in my family were always on diets and it is one of my great sadnesses that my mum achieved her lifelong desire to be slim only after my dad died suddenly and she was deeply unhappy. I understand that women often want to lose weight after Christmas and new year but I hate the way we have been conditioned to value our worth in terms of how slim we are.
I try to eat healthily. I am not bothered about cake, biscuits, crisps etc but I have a real weakness for chocolate so I eat it in moderation. And I exercise regularly - I weight-train at the gym twice a week and I run 2 or 3 times a week. I don't weigh myself. I have a lot of fitted clothes so they tell me if I need to adjust my diet. That's it. I don't give my weight any more space in my head than that. I spent years weighing myself everyday and feeling constantly depressed about the reading. Then I got into fitness and I realised that the important thing is how I feel, so that's what I focus on now.
My little fabbing tip - I have recently discovered Rituals Ayuverda Hand scrub. I have just bought 3 in their online sale. I am a bit obsessed with my hands, using handcream several times a day. The Rituals scrub leaves your hands unbelievably soft - it's absolutely gorgeous!
I am feeling very optimistic about 2019 - lots of lovely things to look forward to in the diary already starting with a coffee afternoon tomorrow with some of my girlfriends and dinner with my son and his girlfriend tomorrow night before he heads back to Zurich at the weekend.
I think my motto for 2019 will be Carpe Diem. I will try to grab every opportunity that comes my way. Also, I need to get more sleep - I stay up too late :rotfl:
Happy New Year to all you fabbers0 -

I checked and although it was prescribed originally for an abcess it is also appropriate for a UTI. Stroke of luck there. Hope you also feel better soon.

That is lucky. I always think it is funny how you need certain antibiotics for certain bits of the body, I know it is really to do with if that type of infection has a resistance to certain antibiotics but I have a mental image of it zooming round your body and focusing on the "right" bit. I think my cold is making me delirious :rotfl:
What are we like? Well several of us aren't making a great start to the new year, in my opinion things can only get better, I hope.0 -
Hello Ladies,
Those of you who are unwell at the moment, I wish you a speedy recovery.
I was using my face packs that I had received for free last year from The Body Shop. I only had 3 to use up, so now I have switched to using my Sanctuary Spa Thermal Detox Mask which I got in a gift set last year. It is very easy to use and will give my face a deep cleanse every day. The Lidl Day Cream which only cost me £1.45 has turned out to be great for my face, so that is now a permanent change for me.I only regret that I had not discovered this face cream years ago.
In terms of my mental health, I treated my oven to a professional clean last week. It gives me so much pleasure every time I now use my oven each day as it is sparkling clean. It cost me £49 but it was money well spent. :j:D
I have started my claim for Personal Independence Payment. I hope it will prove far more straightforward than my ESA claim turned out to be.
My younger son is still staying at home until his return to University on 14th January.I have enjoyed feeding him lots of nutritious home cooked meals and also encouraging him to eat lots of high calorie snacks. He is naturally very, very slim, so if he does not eat 3 meals a day and lots of high calorie snacks he loses weight and looks gaunt and unhealthy. He does have a natural large appetite, but now that he feeds himself at University, his meals and snacks are not high priority for him. His skintight jeans are once again fitting him like a glove. :j:D

Take care of your selves all of you who are under the weather.
LL I once worked for a consultant who regularly recommended drinking cranberry juice for a UTI also eating live yoghurt is helpful as not only do the antibiotics knock out the baddies but they also take down the good guys in your gut .
Keep up the dabbing all of you.0 -
:wave: hello to all the newbies. Welcome to the thread. Look forward to getting to know you all.
eandjsmum. Thanks for the cranberry juice tip. I don't normally touch fruit juices because of the highsugar content but I just happened to have a carton in and have started drinking it. I buy it for DIL. She suffers from regular bouts cystitis so drinks gallons of the stuff. She swears by it. I do take a cranberry tablet each morning.
I also take a probiotic but ran out and then went on holiday so was without for several weeks. I think that's the problem, my microbiome just isn't quite right. I have been having episodes of both IBS and GERD so I know my system is unbalanced. So tbh I'm not surprised I have been hit with a UTI. My system is just out of sync. I also think I haven't been drinking enough water.
Anyway I know how to put it right.
Started the antibiotics last night, so what with that, the cystitis relief sachets and the cranberry juice I actually feel a lot more comfortable, although of course the ab's are making me feel nauseous. :rotfl:
You can't win can you, as you say abs take down the good guys as well as the bad which is why we should only take them as a last resort. But you don't mess with UTIs.
Anyway need to get cracking, off out to lunch with a friend.0 -
Had a lovely lunch with my friend and now just relaxing. Going to have a nice quiet evening. A simple omelette for supper and a movie.
Anti biotics are working although they have given me a splitting headache. :rotfl: I took some omeprazole to protect my stomach so at least they aren't making me feel sick this time.
Anyhoo I'm feeling tons better. I've taken the Christmas decorations down and the great declutter starts next week.

Glad to hear you're feeling better LL.:)
I went to SW today and weighed for the first time in about 2 months. The great news is that I've only gained a pound including the whole Christmas period. I'm really pleased about that and with us being back to eating normally that should soon go.:D
I've had a good, brisk hour's walk today and I'm half way through my water intake. I'll have more while I'm cooking dinner. So that's my latest fabbing goals on track.:)
I've decided on another which is to read a book a month. It's not that I don't already read about 12 books a year as I read loads on holiday but I want to make it a regular habit at home, throughout the year. I know it sounds silly but I can read happily on a sunbed for hours but feel guilty reading novels at home. It's daft so I need to do something about it.:o
I went to the nail shop today and had the shellac taken off, nails cut short and shaped. I intend to cosset them for the next few weeks and then have the shellac again before my holiday. While I was out I did have a browse in a few charity shops. I fancied a dress but decided I really don't need any more clothes.
I've taken some of the decorations down too so decluttering has started. I'll finish it gradually over the next few days but I always leave the door wreath until Twelfth Night.:)
I tried on the various trousers from Primark. I'm going to keep 2 of the 4. A pair like this:
which are so 1930s. They're amazing but mine have a single row of buttons. The other pair that I'm keeping for my holiday are a black and white gingham check but in that crinkly fabric so they'll be perfect for travelling on coaches and look good with several different tops.
Sorry my post has been all me, me, me today. Hope you're all keeping warm. Much chillier today.:)0
