Just parcelling up 14 'neutral' items which will be shipped out Monday.

The problem I have is getting boxes. Did stop at Tesc@s this morning to see if there were any but wasnt lucky however things I have been scraping together for the parcels will mean packaging can be counted in my Monday total plus 4 more items out of the house with the neutral items.

Downshifter the cat kept walking all over my tablet and I'm sure trying to post before I had finished the post! :)

I have the box issue too, especially as I don't have a car. I have been known to buy stuff like loo rolls from Amazon so I can get boxes! It does also save me hauling bulky stuff like this home on the bus.

    159) Cable - thrown away. I did go through all my cables, but I am not sure what gadgets the other ones are for. I will check again in the future to see which ones I haven't used.

    160) Slippers - thrown away because they were leaving white fluff all over the house as I walked around.

161-167) Craft stuff sold on Facebook.

    168) Notebook sold on ebay.
  • I'm looking at everything in my house and thinking do I need or want that,at this rate there won't be anything left, today however I had the pleasure of polishing my newly decluttered living room and it was sooooo easy not having to keep moving ornaments to get the job done,I've only kept a couple of things that are special to me and everything else has gone
It looks really tidy in my living room now,I'm loving it and feel less stressed already

I have watched to Marie Kondo programme but they don't really appeal to me,my daughter follows two American guys called The minimalists so I had a look at their website and I'm completely inspired to get rid of everything I don't need,it's also encouraging me not to buy more stuff I don't need in the future so not only will I be liv g in a more tidy less stressful environment I will eventually have more money becasue I won't be wasting it on stuff

I can also recommend a book called Stuffocation,it's mind blowing how we are brainwashed by the powers that be in advertising into buying things we just don't need,I bought this book while on a shopping trip on a weekend away and it was the only thing I bought, now I would add it to my kindle library so I don't clutter up my house with more books
    Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,120

I read the Marie Kondo book and really didn't like it. It just didn't speak to me and I find a lot of her devotees online a tad frightening! Luckily there is no shortage of other decluttering books out there.

I do find that the more I get rid of the more I want to get rid of. I really don't need much as so much of my life is online now. And I would much rather spend any spare money on going out than buying stuff. Decluttering is so interesting. Most of the stuff I own has not really been used all that much so why on earth did I buy it??!

I'm the same,I do find the Marie Kondo book useful if I'm having trouble sleeping though as every time I read it I fall asleep:rotfl:
I don't know why I bought half the things I've got rid of,it's crazy the kind of things we think we need in our lives,I've also realised I form silly sentimental attachments to things that really don't deserve it,I was looking at a couple of old glasses earlier thinking I would get rid of them but I had them when I first left home so have hung onto them, but it's only a glass it's not got any feelings :rotfl:

It's also true that once you start it becomes quite addictive,I'm constantly seeing things I can get rid of now, this started off as a means to clear my spare room which had been used as a dumping ground for anything I didn't know what to do with the funny thing is I still haven't finished the spare room but I have got rid of loads of things from elsewhere in the house
I will finish it but I am glad I've done other areas as I know the bits I've got rid of won't end up recluttering the spare room once I finish it

  • Doing the Kondo way in categories just doesn't work for me, neither does having clothes in drawers. I like to iron then hang things up. That said, I truly don't think it matters one iota how you declutter, so long as you do. I know MK has been a life changer for many people, that is amazing. No doubt the people mentioned up thread have had the same effect on others. I think, if you find a way that works for you, use that method.

For me, going room to room, item by item or cupboard by cupboard and now, bag and box by bag and box works for me.

I also found the first sweep is by far the hardest, once you've done it once and realised you really don't miss the 'stuff' you get rid of, it makes subsequent sweeps easier.

Once again, what I find and what works for me, may not work for others, that's fine. We built up our collections individually and must declutter the same way.

I still haven't found my iron, I'm beginning to think I've thrown it out by mistake. :rotfl:

  • Hi guys,
Had a quick look through everyones posts over the last few days and it is really inspiring.
Tonight I had a massive clean up so the house is clean and tidy and I feel good for that. Finally sorted through my make up stuff, I don't actually wear much or that often but you would be forgiven otherwise for seeing the state of make up all over the bathroom! I basically thrown it all except for a few essentials that I actually wear. Whilst I was at it, I went through the toiletries too and have rearranged then in a way people might actually use them up before getting more, leaving us with several half used bottles (DS has 6 half used deodorants for example!) I also have a small bag of stuff for charity - couple of books and DVD's I found whilst decluttering.
I think this week I will focus on the hallway and landing, which seems to get junk dumped on.
  • I've got a few things for the charity shop
A bathmat set, some books, a small side table, a laptop bag, and a small handbag. I was going to give the handbag to Dgd to play with, but her Mum had a major de clutter of Dgd's room recently, so I chazzer it instead.

I've tidied the big cupboard on the landing, Dh thinks his nephew might have one or two things out of there so that's another job jobbed.

Nannywidow well done on photos. I'm still feel as if I'm drowning in them.

214 solid plastic handle from a bag binned- keeping bag as it contains my plastic bags!!
215-217 paper bags with holes in or too battered to be any goid.

Could people ask neighbours/ friends for boxes. I would happily give mine to people of they wanted them.

Does anyone know where you are supposed to dispose of sharp kitchen knives? I’ve had four sat on the side to declutter to somewhere, but not sure where?

Going to have a bash at 30 mins decluttering today & see what I can get together.

Also hoping OH will move two boxes full of his paperwork into a plastic box and up into the loft, that will make a big difference as they are taking up quite a bit of space.

For those decluttering photos, 4SDA sell a 100 photo slip-in album for £4. It is such a bargain and I’ve just ordered a few more, it makes everything so much neater than those photo wallet things that they come in.
  • I liked MK, but not to extremes. The folding is a tad OTT for me.... I have 5 people in my house and we're all responsible for putting our own clothes away. As long as they're in the drawers and do not resemble a ball, I'm happy! lol

I do however love the mental approach - the whole 'spark joy' thing works for me. Over the years we've gathered some stuff that may be 'useful' either now or in the future, but if it's not going to bring anything beautiful to the party, then it's out the door! :)

With boxes, when we moved house last time a couple of my friends worked at supermarkets and would bring me 10-20 boxes at a time. I put a call out on FB and everyone was more than happy to help me out. Didn't have to go looking for boxes at all!
