    131 - two things posted.

Must get a move on and fill a couple of plastic boxes with stuff that needs sorting but just needs to be all in the one place instead of tangled & cluttering up all over the place.

Mrs SD - Glad that you avoided the deer. There are many on the roads & they can appear from nowhere almost.
  • Hello!
Can I join too please? I have read from the beginning (epic! And very helpful and amusing). It is so nice to hear you all helping and supporting each other.
If you will have me, I am aiming for 2019 items. I cleared 45 last week (when I first started reading the thread) this included toys, a side table that was not to my taste and an assortment of other bits that were surplus to requirements! All taken to the charity shop.

*220 I could count the number of weeds decluttered today as DD and I did a garden tidy(it hasn't been touched for a good couple of years) but I'm counting the 2 partial bags of compost used up(completely forgotten about just sitting in storage) we used for the pots.
*221 broken garden snow white dwarf-bin
    *222 sentimental Christmas card-recycling
    *223 broken brooch-bin
*224 large amount of plastic wrappings into recycling point in Tesc@
*225 birthday present with recycled packaging sent today
*226 beanie baby toy-popped into Christmas shoebox I'm currently preparing. Slowly getting the cuddlies down and put to good use
    *226 food set-CS
    *227 plastic hanging pot-recycling
*228 pack of partly used Christmas cards with awful designs (that were used by DD for primary school friends, DD now at uni!) -recycling

I'm sure there are others bits but I can't remember!

Monday has been a mixed day ;) Got up & dressed ready for motorbiking & the wind was still howling. Breakfast was cereal & a full Scottish :rotfl: Chatted to our host for 40 minutes putting the world to rights. DH then went off for petrol & to get a landmark from a previous year leaving me in the dry attempting to play Angry Birds 2 :rotfl: Unfortunately no wi-fi connection so I read a magazine instead :) DH picked me up & we set off in the rain & gale force wind:( Overcast practically all the way into England BUT we did have some sunshine & warmth although the wnd never let up. Some great landmarks including the Giant Polish Map of Scotland & the giant Ball Race :rotfl: Slight problem with the bike gear change but 45 minutes in the H*lf*rds car park in Berwick - lying on the floor having taken various bits off ;) he managed to set his mend at ease that bits won’t fall off before we get home. Got to our pub/hotel The Anglers Arms in Sheepwash north of Newcastle just after 7 p.m. Large room with a decent sized bathroom (including a good shower !) Showered, Dressed & down to bar drinking our first pints by 8 p.m. :rotfl: Shared a prawn tempura with DH having fish’n’chips’n’mushy peas whilst I had sausages, mash, carrots, peas & sugar snaps. Very tasty  We paid our monies & participated in the pub quiz :D

For whom the bell tolls :( a badger in Scotland, a Fox & a rook/raven in England :(

Live wildlife :D was sheep, cows, horses, llamas, seagulls, swans & pretty white & black birds which I will try to identify when we get home :rotfl:

Highlights of the day :- the best lemon meringue pie I have ever tasted in the Cedar Cafe  whilst watching In Which We Serve & listening to 50’s/60’s music :rotfl:; only getting really wet once during the day :rotfl:; coming 2nd in the pub quiz :T - our picture round let us down as we couldn’t identify Star Wars characters from the recent films :(.
However the best highlight was that there was an extra little game at the end of the proper pub quiz - 50p each entrant so DH & I answered independently. A single question - what did James Hargreaves invent in 1764. DH changed his answer from correct to incorrect but I dragged up the answer from the dim & distant past :rotfl: (the spinning Jenny if anyone is interested:rotfl:) Yippee :rotfl: Five people got the correct answer, so there was a tie break question - as at December 2018 how many cities were there in the U.K.? I was about to write 43, but then remembered that quite a few places had been given city status last year so thought about upping the number, when all of a sudden the thought popped into my head “why not be a bit rude” :rotfl: so yes, you’ve guessed I wrote ‘69’ :rotfl: Hey presto & abracadabra - I WON :rotfl:
Now the really ‘spooky’ bit of the tale  I was outside having a ciggie (yes I know - disgusting habit) when 2 ladies from the winning team came out & told me a little story - they used to have a member of their team who shared my name & had always insisted that she wanted to live to age 69 & was always known as ‘name69’. She managed to reach age 69 but no further :( So when the winner was announced as ‘name69’ they were reminded of their friend in a very nice way. I like to think that she was reminding them that she was still watching & that she was pleased that they had won :D

A lovely chatty evening full of laughter & fun & DH got to chat to the quiz master about various landmarks & trains :rotfl: must be a Male thing :rotfl:

Well Done Roxie, you get a Gold Star ⭐️ - two decades & five house moves  but now gone & a proper memento of your grandmother :T

Oh daisy 1571, you did make me smile - :naughty: you are decluttering ;) :rotfl:

TamsinC, it is going to look wonderful :) You & your hubby are braver than me & DH :rotfl: oh, Well Done on the actual decluttering :T

I am sooo jealous vintageteainmywardrobe ;) DH & I love the TT :D & you get to see the racing every year :D:T. Decluttering can definitely wait :rotfl: there are far more important things to do with your time :rotfl:

choille, we did breathe a sigh of relief as deer as such beautiful creatures :D

    Well Done - Barny1979; short_bird & Happy Kitties :T:T:T still decluttering & creating havens of peace & tranquility :D

:hello: and welcome Cazzatheclutterbug :D You are now aboard the ‘Decluttering Bandwagon’ and what an excellent start :T Keep up that pace & you will have to change your name to ‘Cazzathedeclutterbug’ Reading the whole thread from page 1 :rotfl: must have been exhausting - I am surprised you had the energy to do any decluttering :rotfl: Being the resident nosey c*w, I for one am looking forward to learning a bit about you & why you chose your name :rotfl:

    See you all tomorrow

  • Have also taken a few of my grandmother's ornaments to the charity shop, sold a couple too so bought a new Portmeiron jug I had been after for a while with the proceeds. Feel better about that, I can look at something I like and enjoy which will remind me of her, rather than carrying around a huge box of her stuff which I would never use, I have had this for over 2 decades and it's been through 5 house moves with me. This was major decluttering for me. Still have a few bits I am trying to sell but if they don't I feel happy to pass them on to a charity shop.

I am in a similar boat, have finally listed 10 items on the bay, am loathe to take to CS but if they do not sell will either take them or Freegle them. It has to be done, Mum bought them and loved them but they were just "There" for me and have been in bubble wrap for years now. Good luck.
  • Hello and thank you for the warm welcome Mrs SD!
The reason behind my username is because until very recently I thought it was completely normal to be surrounded by clutter. I bought my first home just over 4 years ago and between my husband and I we have cluttered it with tonnes of stuff that we don't need or even really want!
We have had two beautiful little girls (nearly 4yo and nearly 1yo) and I do not want them to live as I did growing up. My parents house is packed to the rafters with the conservatory, garden and sheds unusable too.
I have been decluttering our house off and on for about 2 years when I have had a spare minute - not many of them!
Unfortunately my mum died suddenly in October and I am in the process (when my siblings and dad are available both physically and emotionally) of sorting through that house too. My ultimate motivation is that I do not want my girls to have to clear a house like I am having to of stuff that wasn't loved and was all about the acquisition rather than the wanting.
Sorry for the long post, needed to get that off my chest! :j
  • Oh and regarding reading from page 1: it wasn't exhausting, it was actually inspirational reading about the challenges you have all faced and the benefits that have come from the process everyone is following. It was also very funny and heartwarming with the support that is shown. Long may it continue!
