    Hi guys
My online shop arrived this morning. £43.72, but the freezer and cupboards are now full. The main thing is that I rotate properly so nothing will go out of date.
I thought I had rehomed the last of the Xmas treats but found a packet of unopened chocolate pennies so popped them in the food bank bag at SW this evening. Healthy food from now on until I hit target.
Doing a full weekly menu plan doesn’t work for me so I’ve done an interchangeable one on my iPad for the next four days and then I will add days and ideas as I go along.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and well, it’s very chilly here at the moment. Regular hot drinks seem to be the key.

Sorry to hear about your husband VickyV :(

As we were visiting friends who we haven't seen for several months, we stopped at Mr S on the way and bought some flowers and biscuits. They always go out of their way when we visit, putting on a lovely spread or meal so I like to treat them. Plus we don't visit often. £15  spent on flowers and biscuits, although we didn't need to stop for lunch on the journey home as we were really stuffed :rotfl: We used up some rolls and soup left over from Christmas for tea which was nice and easy. Trying to wait as long as possible before doing another shop, I really need to do a proper meal plan beforehand so I'm not tempted to buy things I really don't need. Hope everyone has had a good day :)

  • Hello!

Well, my first week of January budget starts tomorrow. I had a little bit left from this week (£16) as I'd allowed extra for school holiday treats. I was super tempted to get a chippy tea as was running late & tired, but, motivated by you guys, I decided to use stuff out of freezer. Did need an emergency nip to the shop for toilet rolls but still got £7ish leftover! I'm ridiculously chuffed with that! Need to decide whether to add that to this week's budget or to try and squirrel any bits like that away for a rainy day.

First proper shop since Christmas eve tomorrow or Saturday. Hopeful it will be a cheapish one as plenty of food still in the house. Unfortunately, it looks like it might be a (another!) week of cheese & crackers! :rotfl:

cuddlymarm, aren't food banks handy for the stuff you don't want to eat? Got rid of 2 Christmas puddings that way, hopefully a hungry person will want them! and hot drinks are the answer to EVERYTHING IMHO!

Had to send DH out for ingredients for dinner last night as I hadn't read the recipe properly:o. My veggie January started badly yesterday with tofu stir fry given a thumbs down all round (except DH who would eat cotton wool in a stir fry tbh:rotfl:, but even he binned the left overs which I was going to eat today:(.) Oh well, he probably won't have put it on the grocery account so not to worry. We don't share budgeting approaches...

Still on track, meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow but that comes out of another budget. On a bit of a downer today. Hopefully will perk up tomorrow. Plan to do some meal planning tomorrow for next week.

First grocery spend of the year... £1 for rolls (well 90p but got 2x 5ps in my change which go in my change tin!) Kind of annoyed with myself as I meant to put the breadmaker on last night but forgot so these were needed for lunch today but could have been avoided. :o Oh well... £1/161.20

Will need to buy some fresh fruit & veg tomorrow or Sat but hoping I can hold off on doing a big shop for another week. I bought one of these at the end of last year so I've spent the last half an hour looking at my stocktake list of what I have already in and making a menu plan on my new pretty board & making my shopping list. :A Now I just need to actually... vaugely... erm... remotely stick to the meal plan!:rotfl:

  • A smaller than I thought spend yesterday.. £11.31. DS1 did add a couple items to basket, yet paid me for them when we got home:eek::T:rotfl:
Picked up 2 X candles (on offer) in sainsbobs, one to replace a duff one in my bathroom another for the gift box.
Only real whoops was DS1 and me sneaking in McD's for some of their cheesey dipper thingys.. Oooh they are yum.. Still luckily a separate budget for that:D

Have decided to change the way I budget this year, I will no longer will be adding in medical/vitamins, toiletries or household cleaning within my GC.. I want it to be just about food & how much we spend. I shall keep the cats munch in as well, as its food after all :rotfl:
Am keeping the initial budget the same & will alter as I feel necessary..

  • Happy New Year and good luck all in 2019 :)

I've started the month with a bulk shop and will also need a trip to Aldi for some other items which I find cheapest there. Has blown big hole in my budget, but here's hoping I can do it and the cupboards are no longer empty. Amount updated in signature.:)
