You are doing well with the important debts. Have you aske for advice on the debt free board at all? Some really knowledgeable people who can help out with the right things to say and do with debt collectors.

But I just wanted to say, you are doing a brilliant job of getting the rent arrears and council tax down.

Yes it looks like a fab little thread, it is such a simple concept to, I never thought of setting a date to pay a debt by before.

Paid the eBay arrears today, had £30 'left over from the week so used it to pay the £21.98 I owed eBay for listing a car for sale which didn't sell! (long story)

Managed to have 3 no spend days this week, only spent money on Wednesday to pay for the Pilates beginner course, and today fuel some bits in sainsburys this morning, Croissant cheese twist and milk then the ebay money.

Tomorrow a whole new day and pay day too :D

    Payday! :D

    Today I paid:

    Rent £161.59 - £740.00 arrears
Council Tax £25.00 - £164.00 left for this year
Gas £75.00 - Paid off! so can change to cheap supplier now :D

I appear to have £40 to much in my account, will pop it to one side as probably forgot something somewhere...

Was hoping to pay £100 on the rent arrears but had a think about the snowballing your debt theory, so chose to pay £75 on the Gas, and wow does it feel good knowing that is paid rather than having £50 to go and £700 rent arrears...

Had a strange phone call from my Housing Association today, they asked if I am still receiving Universal Credit. I replied I have no idea what I am due this month as it is done monthly... Seemed an odd thing for them to ask, why would they care where the money is coming from? Also I am slightly fed up with these 'companies' knowing my ins and outs of what I have have not got

Well done on finding work and chipping away at the debts!

My sister does focus groups with this company and gets approx £50 for them, I haven't done one yet as I am busy with my son but when he's bigger I'll sign up

    alonamartin.com

or see if there's any other market research groups or mystery shopping companies you could get in touch with to earn some extra money (if you're interested in doing that).

I sold my bicycle for £50 on facebook marketplace last week, it's nice to have a bit of extra cash and I wasn't using the bike anyway.

Good luck with your debt busting!

Thank you Jox, certainly food for thought there, I do have a £10.00 amazon Voucher from some survey website back in the summer... hmm I need vacuum bags! lol

Following on from the very strange conversation I had with my Housing Association on Friday, I called back asking for clarity as to what they were asking and why... needles to say this email conversation then happened over the last few days...

"Thank you for you enquiry about the phone call you received from the income team, on Friday 17/01/2020.

The enquiry being made was in relation to the status of your Universal Credit, I can see that you have been making payment direct to your rent account.

RHA have to review all our Universal Credit claims, as all changes in your circumstances such as starting employment will affect your entitlement.

We wanted to see if your claim had been subject to changes, you have informed us that you have in fact started work and are awaiting an updated statement from UC.

So that we can make suitable arrangements for on-going payments, you can email into the team again as soon as you know what your payments will be.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask."

    My response.....

Sorry I still do not understand?

I am paying my rent, what else do you need? Why does it matter where the money comes from?

    Affect my entitlement to what?

What do you mean email the team as soon as I know what my payments are?

Your email is not very clear, raises more questions than provides answers

    Regards

To which I received this reply...

Thank you for your email, I am sorry you feel that it was not clear.

I can see you have been making payments towards your rent, all I we were trying to establish was a clear payment date or frequency.

Your Universal Credit entitlement would be affected by any additional income, so that would change what they pay towards the rent.

The purpose of the call was to establish a regular payment date, so we can set an arrangement on the system and prevent any arrears letters/contact being made.

Hopefully this email is clearer than the previous one, we were just trying to understand if payments would change in amount or frequency because you are now back in work.

    To which I responded with...

The last letter I received from RHA re my rent states £110.00 a week, which is broken down as £101.59 rent and £8.41 towards the arrears.

So we shall stick with that,

If you receive this in a monthly amount a weekly amount, more than that figure who cares!

As long as I am paying who cares if it is weekly/ monthly or above the required amount of £110.00 per week.

I would be more impressed if you actually did something about my nuisance neighbor than ask ridiculous questions about rent!

I will admit I did lose my patience and without going into detail I do have a neighbor who is very good at anti social behavior.

Seriously though, would love to know why they need to know a regular payment date, can they not see that for the last 8 Fridays I have sent money their way, rent and a bit towards errors.

The system really is there to wind you up and infuriate you one way or another.

    Sorry had to rant

    Sorry I don't agree.
The HA needs to know as a minimum how much you will pay towards the arrears & when ie monthly or weekly.
If you pay over whats agreed then that's fine.
The amount of your universal payment will affect any council tax reduction you are entitled to.
In some areas they would be starting proceedings for the arrears amount you have.
