Did the hire company charge you for dealing with this? If so, you need to get your money back from them. This is made easier by having proof that the PCN has been cancelled by the scammers under instruction from the landowner.
I'm not convinced I would refer to a supermarket that employs unregulated scammers as my favourite, but it is your choice to keep using them.

How is it a scam when it is an authorised private parking company that is working on behalf of the supermarket. It is not illegal is it? I thought Euro Car Parks have these parking restrictions in place all over the country. The hire company charged me an admin fee but I thought that was their charge for dealing with the PCN. This should surely be refunded as the charge has been cancelled and I am sure it stated on their documentation they emailed me that if the charge is cancelled they will cancel their admin charge.0 -
How can you have been given a PCN, come here and read the NEWBIES thread including the words our MPs have used in open parliament about this, and seen the hundred odd threads we deal with every day and not think this is a scam?
Our MPs think it is so and are pushing a bill through parliament to stop it.
Not allowing grace periods.
Ignoring appeals
Inadequate signage
Failure to meet the scammers ATA CoP
Ignoring the Equality Act 2010
Lying in court
Lying to motorists
Misquoting acts of parliament
Using ANPR cameras that the UK government has said are not fit for purpose and prohibited from being used in council car parks.
Changing signs after an appeal has been made
Issuing charges when vehicles were not actually parked
Issuing tickets to cars parked in the motorists' own parking space
Doctoring time stamps on their photo' "evidence"
Taking photos of windscreen tickets then removing the PCN
Issuing charges on non-relevant land
Issuing charges on public roads
Do I really need to go on.
As for the charge from the hire company, unless their Ts and Cs specifically mention otherwise, they do not cover private parking charges (invoices), only penalties and fines from an authority such as court, council, or police.
If your hire co has paid your invoice thus denying you the chance to appeal, and have charged you for the privilege of dealing with it when their Ts and Cs do not permit them to, then they have scammed you as well as the parking scammers.
If you still believe the unregulated private parking industry is not a scam, and believe the hire co were right to charge you outwith their Ts and Cs, and their ATA's instructions, then in my opinion you are extremely gullible and likely to get scammed again.I married my cousin. Because Local Authorities invariably want less for similar offence. LAs do not lie and fake evidence.

LAs provide a fair appeal service. LAs do not entrap motorists, LAs do not use dodgy ANPR systems, want any more?
They have tried to scam you and wasted your time, Why reward their employers? You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Before everyone jumps all over me, I have never been fined before for parking in 47 yrs of driving plus I don't know who these companies are but I thought Euro Car Parks was a legal company. Perhaps I am gullible but I took it for granted that they had to be legally authorised to operate these parking restrictions but as I have been out of the country on and off for 4 yrs I am not ofey with the parking company industry. All the facts and articles you quote are all new to me. Even my sister hasn't heard of what you speak of. She thought they were legal too.
As for the hire company scamming me, it is written into their contract that THEY will recharge for any parking charges they receive and as they have paid the charge I am sure they are not going to stand out of the money when they can recharge my credit card. Whether or not they are "in on the scam" I have no idea. If the supermarkets are in league with these "illegal" companies I have no idea either.
As for all the threads Fruitcake mentions, I haven't read every thread or every contribution on MSE made on this subject. I did read the Newbies thread although I haven't seen the comments made by MP's on this subject. I think I did read some time ago about an illegal parking company but as I say I thought Euro Car Parks was legal.
As I say I have driven for 47 yrs and have never been accused and charged for parking illegally or otherwise had occasion to question their authenticity ! :eek:0 -
OK, it's a shame to see the "I'm alright Jack" attitude is still alive and well.
I guess you won't be complaining to your MP?0 -

you still have not parked illegally
Euro Car Parks was a legal company. Perhaps I am gullible but I took it for granted that they had to be legally authorised to operate these parking restrictions
In order to access details form the DVLA a pakring company must belong to a so called accredited trade association, there are currently two of these, the BPA and the IPC.
Both of these trade associations exist in order to further the aims of their members.
The trade associations write their own rules for the benefi and to suit their members - the parking companies, these are known as codes of practice (COP) the parking companies attempt to follow these rules, and at time to time they are re-written to make it easier for the parking companies.
Neither trade association offers an independent appeals service in the true meaning of the word, as the appeals service is controlled and /or financed by parking companies and they follow the codes of practice drawn up by the parking company trade associations.
Council/local authority parking enforcement and the appeals are completely different, there is a (reasonably) independent appeals route ( once you get there) and there is representative legislation there to back things up, however with the ticket first, think second as the motorist can appeal attitude of "parking wardens" questions should be asked about hire companies just paying up.
In theory you or anyone could set up a private parking company, join the IAS ( as their bar is far lower) and target hire company vehicles knowing that you would be quids in ( even more so) as the hire companies will in most cases just cough up, it would even be possible to close the loop and run a PPC and a hire company and target your own vehicles, passing the charge to the end user ( plus a tasty admin fee)
so as you can see the system, especially with private companies is wide open to abuse, dodgy dealings and sharp practice.
Thats why its important to understand the difference between a real parking ticket, and a private parking ticket, plus whats illegal and whats notFrom the Plain Language Commission:

Being a legal company (which, as far as I am aware, all PPCs we deal with are) is no guarantee against being a scammer too. They are not mutually exclusive entities. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. You have not been fined, it's just an invoice
As far as being legal, anyone can set up a business, it's how they operate it that depends if it's done legally
The only authorisation they require is being a member of the BPA
which allows them to get your details from the DVLA
The BPA by the way has more scammers as members than you can imagine.
I strongly suggest to take time out to read everything otherwise you will become their next victim. Those who read the info on this forum will win ..... it's up to you0
