Ideal logic boiler and Hive query
Comments
-
I have bought a Hive controller but unsure how to wire it into my combi boiler, there is a temp sensor already installed but it is wireless so it will need wired into the boiler, I assume I can unplug the current wireless unit and wire in the Hive controller. I assume that I wire common to N, Live to L, link Live to 1 and which heating control wire do I need to cable to 3. Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Exact make and model of boiler, please. And I presume that middle pic is of the boiler's wiring box, and the bottom one of the Hive receiver?
What type of controller do you currently have?
Anyhoo, about to watch 'Luther' with family - will have a looksee later :-)0 -
Well, that was informative :-)
I WILL need your boiler's make and model to figure out how to by-pass that existing receiver before I can give you full details how to wire in the Hive, but PLEASE DON'T DO A THING UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
"I assume that I wire common to N..." is, I presume, a typo?
The red wire loop will ultimately need removing and the Hive receiver wired in there instead, and the Hive also receive power to operate, BUT (1) we don't know yet if these 'Room Stat/Timer' terminals are 'volt-free', and (2) how to by-pass that existing receiver.
If these ARE volt-free terminals, and you wire the Hive as if they weren't (ie, as you are suggesting in your post) you will fry your boiler's PCB.

It's an Ideal Logic+ ?0

Ideal Logic C30 and yes a type Neutral not common, I have managed to get a diagram from a Baxi not sure if its the same idea. And would I wire in L,N,E to the boiler connections or run it direct from the spur?
Currently there is a stat installed but I think its not working as the link has not been removed (IDEAL PRT3), It's a wireless link so no cables other than at the boiler itself. The middle picture is of the boiler behind panel, the bottom one is the back plate for the Hive receiver0 -
Thanks for that (just realised the model name was in your title... :-( )
I shall look it up.
Meanwhile, and important detail is that YOUR 'Room Stat/Time' terminals are NOT individually labelled (unlike the ones in that new diagram). This suggests to me that they are 'volt free', so if you wire yours up like the Baxi, good chance it'll be smelly.
Please don't do anything until someone - me if I have time - can confirm. :-)0 -

Sorry, fix'sit - I haven't been able to get the info I require.
I could give you my best guess, but since I don't know if the control terminals are volt-free or not, it would be a risk. Also not sure how to effectively by-pass that PRT3 receiver when it's no longer required.

It’s easy. The receiver backplate for the Hive should have NL then your switches from the boiler (take out the red link wire) to 1 and 3
Use .75 heat resistant 3 core. With regard to the receiver fitted to the boiler (is this a ideal touch?) you will need to put the link back in! Little purple thing. They may have left it with the packaging.I leave them...and if you haven’t I *might* have one I can send you. Along with a blank plate2 -
These are the bits you need
