Thanks. Yes, it's called 'lovebombing' or similar. I'm sure she'd like it, it's tricky as she's such rubbish company I don't really want to spend time with her on her own or I'd be worried she'd kick off about something. Definitely worth a go though, will sort something once restrictions are lifted a bit.DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Need to make a decision on a UK break we had booked with a well known (overpriced) holiday park. The 4 night break is costing £1900, which is horrific and we're due to go end of July. At the moment, their site is a bit vague, but the impression I get is that restaurants and pool will still be shut due to covid regs and activities will be limited. I'd prefer to just cancel it and get a refund... the price made me feel a bit ill even when it was fully functioning. To pay that amount for what they're now offering would irritate me hugely and I think we should just not bother with a holiday this year, just do a couple of nice days out instead. We could also then split our holiday and cover 2 weeks of summer hols instead of one with the AL saved.
OH thinks we should still go as will be a change of scenery and a break from the norm. Hmmmm, dilemma.DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

I would cancel it. They won't be short of people desperate to book, as getting abroad is still going to be quite tricky. We won't be going away this year, but are planning a week off together and some nice days out.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉7

Yeay! I found and subscribed to your diary again!
I agree with drawing a line. If I have guessed the holiday park right, the pool is what makes it in my eyes and that is a lot of money to pay for not going to the fancy pool!

I'm thinking a trip to the seaside, a trip to a zoo and a couple of NT places will be just as enjoyable.DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Haha, sounds like you've guessed the location right! I rely on the pool to pad out the days away and just top up with a couple of activities. Without the pool (and probably play areas), you're left with a very expensive hut in the middle of a forest

With that money you could look at booking somewhere else later in the year or put it towards days out or a weekend break when you have less restrictions and can enjoy it. Otherwise you're going to be stuck spending lots of money on days out whilst away on holiday which you could do at home. I wouldn't be too keen on going so I agree with you - BUT if you do decide do go don't resent it - because that would guarantee a bad time. Maybe you could explore the place and find something new to do with the space freed up by not swimming. Maybe let everyone have a choice fora day/half day and you all just have to do that no debate. With us it sometimes got to the point where everything had to be discussed and everything had to be perfect for everyone which with a big family is a recipe for friction. so if you do go (or even if you do something different like days out) try getting everyone to lower the bar and go with the flow of what's decided (but not to overthink it).
Especially if you are saving £1900 then you could probably not let money get in the way. I remember in Paris once the kids all wanted to go to a little fun fair thing but the prices were sky high so I said no, and then we ended up in a restaurant paying 2 times as much for no fun.
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
