Cheapest Boiler Cover Discussion

For things like my bicycle, phone, dental plan, boiler, mains connection, etc. I get a quote for the premiums then pay them into my own high interest regular savings plan. This totals to about£70/month. After a couple of years the potential costs of most household emergencies are covered; a few years more funds replacement and renewalsHe's not the MSE'er. He's a very naughty boy!0

Hi,
Am I being unreasonable?-my boiler has had only 1 minor problem that bg were called out to in past 7 years and I've been on scheme for at least 5 years, it is a combi boiler installed 2004. i am on the homecare 200 plan.
My instinct is to bin it but the boiler is getting older. Appreciate any thoughts?
Thanks in anticipation
Regards

My renewal quote was over £300. I called them and they were able to reduce it to about £25 a month but that was still loads compared to homeserves equivalent - about £16.75 a month. I'm considering going with them or even trying the £50 excess version for £8.50 a month0

I have Homecare 200 with British Gas. I pay £21 per month but my renewal has come in at £27. When I rang to quiz this they reduced it to £24 on the spot. I have not taken this offer up yet as it doesnt expire until next month.
I have looked at Npower who do it for 13.50 in the first year. Does anyone have any experience of them? If I was to ring BGas again and say that I was definately cancelling to go to NPower would they be likely to move further on price? Im thinking I could go to NPower for a year and then back to BGas as a new customer so for £18.00.
I know the arguments for and against boiler cover but for us it has paid over many times.I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

I also have Homecare 200 with British Gas.
My monthly payments have also risen and they will not budge on price.
I have looked at NPower who are £2 per month cheaper for same cover, however after 12 months they will be more expensive than B.Gas.
B.Gas have full history of my boiler etc so for £2 a month i cant be bothered to change to be honest...also when you change there is no cover for 14 days and sods law will no doubt kick in.....0 -
Took out cover with Eon @ £5 a month. When my boiler broke down 3 weeks later on a Friday evening I was originally given a date for the engineer to come the following Friday, but was told not to worry and that when the scheduling department were back in the next day they would call me with a quicker date. I didn't hear anything the next day. On the Monday I called them and was told that they didn't have any engineers who could come quicker than Friday. After a weekend freezing cold without heat or hot water this was not acceptable. I complained about their service levels as I had been led to believe by their website that they offered a next day service. I was then informed that this was for emergencies and, apparently, no heating or hot water does not constitute an emergency!! I was also then told that because I had only just taken out the policy and had not had the inspection visit if they deemed it to be a pre-existing fault I would have to pay for the repair - I'm sure we can all see where that one is going! If I was going to pay for the repair anyway I could have had an engineer there on the Saturday morning!
I then phoned British Gas who said they could attend the next morning for a fixed price if I then took out the Homecover plan, which I decided to do, as by this stage I really wanted a shower. I cancelled the policy with Eon and expressed to them (without too much swearing) what I thought of their service.
The British Gas engineer turned up next morning when they said he would. Although he needed to get a part for it, he was back again first thing the following morning with the part.
Although the Homecover service is rather more expensive than Eon's, as far as I was concerned it was worth it to have someone turn up.0 -
Hi gillycat
I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you had. Being without heating and hot water must've been really awful.
Just thought I'd let you know, we don't own that part of the business anymore. The new owners, Home Energy Services (HES), took over about a year ago. They sent everyone a letter to tell them about the change.
You might still see the odd E.ON van or uniform about for a few more weeks though while they change over.
They've set up their own website and this includes a complaints procedure. I'd use this to let them know what happened. Can't change things now, I realise, but feedback is always useful.

Has anyone taken out a Homeserve cover 8 poilcy and got the promised £100 cashback?
Mum has waited nearly 6 weeks (after the qualifying 17 weeks) for hers and she has now been told that she doesn't qualify as she had a service (which she didn't really need). No where in the t&cs does it say its one or the other offer.
Seems like a bit of a con but would appreciate some help with this2014 Target;
To overpay CC by £1,000.

I'm considering getting one of the BG Homecare packages but what is the deal with the excess? Do I have to pay £99 excess every time I need to call them out?0
