I would be interested in more views on Hoodless Brennan, as there low cost service sounds good, but i am wary of their previous customer feedback.

I briefly gave my view in #269 above. I've had no customer service problems with HB, and their price is fine. Perhaps it's just me, but I never feel comfortable using their website. The only way I've found to do transactions is real time, with the 15-second countdown. You can't set up deals out of hours - or I haven't found how to do it.

That's why I have also suggested looking at The Share Centre, which is still pretty cheap and is far easier to use, in my opinion. And as far as I know their limit system works at best price.

Incidentally, I don't have my shares in ISAs as there are extra charges, both from HB and Share Centre, I believe.

  • ISA's held within ShareCentre certainly are higher than the standard share account.
I use SC as the batch dealing is cheaper and the amount of the fee quarterly should be easily covered by the dividends I receive.
Not an expert trader but I have found their site to be very easy to use, informative (although take their tips with a pinch of salt) and pretty cheap overall.
Just wish I hadn't paniced and sold RBS and BARC when they slumped a coupled of weeks ago, but you live and learn. Luckily this is "play" money, hard earned, hopefully not easily lost.
    Nothing to see here

    .
my other brokers (self and e-trade) also allow a 15 sec window when you are getting best price during trading times.
Does HB not allow one to set up limit orders when trading hours have closed?

If they do, I haven't found it on their website. When I try a transaction, it just tells me the Stock Exchange is shut.

I have an amount of shares I would wish to sell, but seems as though I have never done this before, I would like to get the best value brokers/sales for my shares.

I have approximately £800 worth of shares.

The registrars for the company stated they would charge 65 euro to sort this out. Is that good?

'Sort it out'? They mean 'sell them'?

The amount's not too important, but if it's one company and one share certificate, €65 is a lot. If several, it might not be too bad. Is it a UK share?

  • Does anyone know how long it takes Selftrade to credit an account with the £50 referral payment? My account is up and running (2 weeks) but I have yet to receive the referral payment.
    Thanks

Once you have met the referral conditions it can take anything from a couple of days to 3 weeks..

I've noticed that Martin's info regarding the cost of Hoodless Brennan's services is out-of-date. Does anyone know how to make Money Saving Towers aware of that?
