  • yes, i clearly made a mistake. duh.

is it possible to get a phantom portfolio on the internet, one that tracks shares for you? or do you mean a phantom has to be paper based, so that i'm writing it myself?

    thanks

There are other places to make a online portfolio but this comes to mind others may be better but its a good start. http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/

You need to add the epic code. That is the three character code that is unique to a share ie CRA = Corac You can find the epic codes on there by entering the company name in the get a quote field

Hi, I need some advice here about "The Share Centre". In Martin's article, it says that you can only withdraw cash quarterly, all other transfers cost £25. But according to https://www.share.com/webp/d_share.htm it says FREE for 3 days transfer (BACS?). Who is right in this case?
  • Quick question if someone would be kind enough to answer this for me....
the company I work for has just entered into an agreement to be taken over by a competitor. Current share price is about £7.79 & the competitor has agreed to buy them for £8.00...

So why are people selling shares now? Should I be selling mine or hanging on to them?

I thought it was a common sense answer but when over 70,000 shares got sold last week I'm beginning to wonder if I'm wrong...

If the price has risen on the news of the takeover, some people might prefer to accept 779p and take a profit rather than hold on and find the deal falls through.

I'm with the Share Centre (and HB). I can confirm BACS transfers are free.

Haven't checked Martin's article, so can't explain the discrepancy.

Mrs T and I are planning to open a couple of stocks and shares ISAs.We expect to buy into funds initially, so anticipate a low level of trading for a year or two, but this is likely to change once we build our resources.

Any suggestions as to a good online trading service for this situation?

Specifically, is the Selftrade referral offer still available?

    Thanks

I personally have been suing Selftrade for a number of years but find teh cs poor and only good thing is the limit order service and the SMS service. The limit order works at best price which is better than other brokers i use. I use E-trade for the last year and although they have lower dealing rates (£8-95) there limit order service is not as good and they dont allow some shares to be traded on limit (e.g Man group) for some reason. Its all down to personal requirements.
I would be interested in more views on Hoodless Brennan, as there low cost service sounds good, but i am wary of their previous customer feedback.

Hargreaves Lansdown are good for funds but not very good for shares.

For ISA's I would recommend Selftrade or if you have a HSBC bank account HSBC InvestDirect (but I think they don't do funds)

or Mrs T could open her own account maybe via a referral from this forum. When that is open she could refer Mr T, thus keeping the referral money within the family of £50 each! Even more money saving:j
