Yahoo will show after hours trading prices if the stock is active in the after market. If you look on this page the after hours will appear just above the main pane.

You can also try this site since I see you are looking at US equities.

  • I see that I'm not the only one who can't register with HB within minutes, as per their website. It's been over a week now (that's quite a few minutes) and I estimate the wasted time has cost me dear. I have called every day and been told that my documents will be signed off by the end of that day and that I'll be able to log on. It hasn't happenned yet. Not a good start to a business relationship, when your dealer lies to you.

In my experience (and most of those I refer) you can open a Selftrade account and be trading within 10 minutes and funding your dealing account by debit card.

  • Called HB yet again this morning to be told same waffle. Yes my documents are just about to be signed off. Today ? I ask ..... should be ... I'm told.
Don't bother...I say ... just send my documents back. Could you put that in an email please sir????
    Consider it done
    And it is done

P.S. Thanks for the info Sunil
  • Has anyone else experienced delays with the Selftrade online application process? I applied for a mini-ISA three weeks ago, but have had zero feedback from them either way - no emails, no post, nothing. I've phoned their helpline and quoted my reference number, to be told it's "in progress", which sounds like a cop out to me to be honest. I'm now in limbo somewhat, as I don't know whether to keep chasing them or go somewhere else. I'm not sure I want to trade through them if this is their idea of customer service to be honest.
  • Can anyone tell me why Hoodless is still cheap when compared to http://www.interactivebrokers.com/ ?

Moreover, they have a software where I can monitor data and place orders not only in shares but also futures and options and funds and forex. Its a comprehensive software and still its £6.00 per trade.

I got this link from www.LondonStockExchange.com

I don't understand why moneysupermarket doesn't include this in its comparision.

Martin, can you please update your main article if this is the cheapest and also the one with best software available.

    Thanks!
  • Hello all. I have a simple question with a complex (maybe) answer...

If I'm starting out investing in shares, how much should I start with?
Looking at the share prices, they seem to be mainly in the £100+ PER share. That seems beyond the reach of most people. So how about some advice?

Are there cheaper shares I should be looking at?

    And,

How much would be a rough minimum to start off with: £1000? £2000?
Or is it better to allocate a min a month; £100, £200

Would be great to hear ideas.... thanks!
  • On this website it states that HB do not charge a management fee for holding shares transferred from paper shares to the online account and only have to pay a flat fee of £7 to sell. Last week I opened an online trading account with HB for the express purpose of transferring my dragon oil shares certificate with a view to holding onto this for the next year or so. However on reading further into the terms and conditions on the HB website, I have found that they charge £5 per quarter if you do not trade in that time and the minimum fee charged on 1 trade is £8. That means it actually costs £20 per year to keep your shares with them. This is very misleading as this is in effect a management fee!
I would now like to cancel my account as I have not yet transferred my shares to them. Will I be charged for this?

I think you have mixed up the prices they are quoted in pennies not pounds.

I would suggest you try a phantom portfolio first, try Yahoo finance or some such to set up a portfolio and see how you get on before you risk real money! Don't forget to take dealing cost/stamp duty into account.

If once you have seriously decided you with to invest and possibly loose, and you wish to buy a small quantity a month try the Halifax sharebuilder they let you buy small amounts for £1.50 on a regular investment. You could also look at ISAs.

    Hope that helps
