I'm new to this game, and I want to buy some shares. Looking at online traders, they only seem to have nominee accounts. But I want to be the registered shareholder, in order to receive the shareholder benefits, which apparently you don't get if somebody else is the nominee.
    Help please.

    Thanks.

I have been looking at some share dealing accounts and come across SVSSecurities and X-O.co.uk that only charge £5.75 and £5.95 per deal with no annual fee.

I was wondeering about investing through an ISA - if I bought shares through the above companies, would there be any costs in transferring them to my H&L ISA? Would they still have the tax advantagesof an ISA?

Are there any low cost share dealing ISA accounts out there?

    Thanks

I don't know any that operate any other way and it depends on the share if the benefits are available through a nominee or not some do some don't.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

X-O do an ISA, same dealing charges. IIRC the only other charge is for closing the ISA or transferring shares out to another broker.

Does anyone know if I can contribute to a X-O ISA as well as my existing S&S ISA with H&L in the same tax year?

No you can't - the only way you can contribute to two ISAs in one year is if one is a cash ISA, the total contribution to both is less than the limit and that to the cash ISA is below the cash ISA limit.

You can have an account where you receive the share ceertificate and are therefore on the share register yourself.

That service tends to be more expensive and would probably be telephone dealing only, rather than online.
  • I am on the hunt for a company with a wide range of potential mining / oil prospects similar to what Range Resources has.

Anyone have any suggestions? Trying to find companies which are not of an "all or nothing" nature.

Rockhopper maybe, they dont have production exactly but definite oil with maybe more. Heritage have a big gas find but will take years to actually sell it, could find more.
Range is mostly valued on its prospects, its production is very small but stable most likely

Theres a thread on cad here, I think they have production

Hardy has production if I remember right, alot of disappointment with no recent discoveries. Centamin has gold production and might increase reserves or improve returns
Cairn produces in india but is selling it to explore in iceland

Faroe is in north sea, I think they got production or least the oil in place and also exploring for more
