• To receive perks as a shareholder normally the shares need to be held in certificated form rather than held in a nominee account. Same situation with the perks at Disney, you need 5 or 20 shares in a certificated form as mentioned in their link:

Tihs disney question has been asked before on this board. I think it was said Halifax confirmed the situation and would allow perks through themselves, speak to them or email them.

Hi STT, sounds sensible if this has been done before. But not sure how Halifax would hold Disney shares in a nominee account for PieMan without ongoing costs.

Vectra, its really difficult to help people when they just use the word 'best', as it has such a wide range in its conotation.

If you mean quickest, then probably just walk in to your bank (if they do share trading) with the share cert, probably some form if ID and they will sell the shares. But, this is the most expensive option (poss £30 - £40).

If you mean cheapest, then open an online account with one of the cheap brokers, send in the cert, when it is on your account sell the shares. Cost ranges probably from £1.50 to £12.50. If you take this option and you do not intent to trade in shares make sure there isn't and inactivity or account closure fee.

I have some shares in Smiths Group supposed to have just jumped 99p to 1390.6p whats the best way to go about selling these shares?
Equiniti is the registra for Smiths Group, I think, if that is the case you can probably sell through them, might be the best way for a one off transaction, but it wouldn't necessarily be the cheapest as cloud_dog says. Not sure if a broker will charge an admin fee to deposit share certs.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I hold european stocks with halifax and theres no ongoing charge. Its not cheap to deal but thats it

Heres the link for the lady who mentioned this previously. What is the correct stock code for Euro Disney?
You don't need to hold the shares as certificates.
You only need to provide proof that you hold shares in the company. Which HSD will provide on request.
just went back into the account, as i was checking my halifax savings account anyway, and its been updated, so am now the owner of 20 disneyland paris shares! now i just have to sort out the shareholders club form and find out how i print of the halifax contract notes!

Thanks all for the help. Managed to find the contract note online last night

i have faxed the forms off this morning to disneyland paris sharholders club on the work fax and seems to have gone through ok (fingers crossed) i have included a cover sheet and asked if they dont mind to email confirmation of receipt.

cant wait fingers crossed they sort out quick as my trip is in january and what with the postal strikes looming want it to be processed asap. ended up paying £135 for the 20 shares (including halifax's share dealing) i know its probably more than i would have paid earlier this year but oh well, with my trip in january looming couldnt wait too long for them to drop and also if the pound goes any weaker than the euro then it may not make a difference even if the shares do drop slightly.

Since signing onto the halifax share site, i have been reading more into the sharebuilder scheme where you buy monthly for a smaller fee, has any one got expericne of doing this?? is it easy to do, it sounds it but i am not sure if i fully grasp how it works (seems a bit too easy lol)
Pieman sorted then, either do it at a bank to obtain certificated shares or have a free share account at the Halifax.

Previous suggestion based on what EuroDisney say on their website info on T+C link given earlier, under requirements: "A certificate evidencing the holding of Euro Disney S.C.A. shares. Electronic prints of online bank statements are not accepted..". But if there is a confirmed workaround with Halifax as nominee, fine.

Ticker is EDL for EuroDisney SCA shares based on DL link below, ISIN FR0010540740 if you want to check their availability on your online Halifax account. My non-halifax account does not list EuroDisney shares as standard, only the main Disney stock DIS.NYSE.

i hold some shares in a small mining company. I have noticed that this company almost every other day keeps buying more of its own shares. is this a good sign or bad thing?
