Hi, Beechy,
Tell your mother's friend not to have anything to do with Price Stone. You might like to print off this warning from the FSA to underline the point. There are some very informative threads on the Motley Fool as well, and this post more or less tells you everything you need to know.

Hi guys
i'm new to stock trading and have been doing a lot of paper trading before diving into the market proper. Can anyone please tell how or where i can get information on the various performing sectors and their different expansion and contraction seasons as i am well aware that this information is vital to picking out a the right stock as it relates to performance and high percentage yields.
Hoping i can get some help from someone. Thanks guys and have a wonderful day.0 -
<<Usually the company website can help and this is no exception - Vodafone. The next dividend is payable on the second of February>>
Thanks for that bud. Now I'm in a quandry about whether to wait :-)

hiya,
I recently tried to sell vodafone shares and was told that I couldn't because the value of the shares was denoted in dollars, not pounds.
I phone the registrar and they said that they had sent me an updated cert.
I did not receive this cert.
Yet they want to charge me £31 for a "replacement"
Most companies state that any certs that I send to them should be sent by recorded delivery...(otherwise they assume no responsibility for certs lost in the post)
Why then did they not originally issue the cert to me by recorded delivery?
Surely the onus is on them to prove that I DID receive the cert?
What should I do?
many thanks,

I am a share-dealing virgin and need some step by step advice please, from this fountain of knowledge.
Through a sharesave scheme I've accumulated some paper shares in Scottish Power. They are doing rather well at the moment and I would like to sell some. How do I do it? How much can I sell without having to pay capital gains tax? I don't envisage regular dealing, just this once for now.
I have read Martin's article and looked at Hoodless Brennan's website and this thread, but it either does not explain the basics or I am too dim to absorb it. Can someone provide me with a basic idiot-proof instructions, please?0
