  • Hi all, could I please ask for some advice? I have about £10000 of debt, 4 x credit cards, car loan and catalogue. I am really struggling and only pay the interest on my c/cards each month.

I am considering a loan for £10000 to clear my debts as just can’t see an end to the credit cards!

Do you think it’s better to do the loan over 3 years, would be a struggle and would have to rely on overtime. Or 5 years and try to overpay?

Thanks for any help, tips etc, I’ve no one to ask and could use some advice!

Its only a good idea to consolidate if you are sure that once you have the loan you wont rack up more charges on the now empty credit cards, and that the loan is actually cheaper.

Personally I would go for 5 and over pay - but again you are giving yourself a temptation to let it slide

Plus I think you should start a fresh thread though as this one is quite transactional once people are registerd. Plus you will get a more general audience and more variety in opinions

  • Thank you Mark88Man. Yes probably the wrong thread to ask the question.

Hi Pixiefairydust! I would start your own thread with your question so you can get the proper responses it deserves, if you're going to get a loan i would go for the highest monthly repayments you can deffo afford without relying on overtime that might not always be available... do you have side hustles eg selling on eBay, matched betting, a 2nd job etc etc? If you can make extra money on the side and cut back anywhere in your budget you might not need a loan...

I started a thread below if you want to chat on there?? It's more of a wannabe debt free diary now and a bit lonely on there haha

  • Morning fellow challengers

Anyone else just sat waiting for pay day to hit and direct debits to fly out? My first payment of the year is a pending transaction and is my 0% card minimum with a small £21ish overpayment to round it up. Looking forward it being the first of many this year....fingers crossed.

  • Hi,

Can I please be put down for £2500 this year? I haven’t been active on the 2018 thread in the second half of the year so I’m happy to have a new number if that works out easier for you muppets.

    Thanks!

  • Can I join? I'm aiming for £3000, it won't clear everything but should leave me with only my loan and 1 credit card and 1 catalogue.
