I do not know how my pin number was compromised. All I know is I was with a large group of people the day my card went missing.

I am not here to be interrogated. I am here to gain advice on what are the next steps I can take. I personally cannot force you to believe my version of events and that's fine by me with all respects. I would just like advice on what are the next steps I can take.

My PIN has been the same for many years but never compromised it to anyone as its the same number for my house alarm phone passcode various passwords.

Did you mention this to the bank?

I am sure this breaks their terms.

With that level of security it was probably easy to guess as well.

It is obvious how your pin was compromised. You don't have a secure pin. It's no wonder the bank think you did more. (I think you did too).

People are not interrogating you for the fun of it, you have not given enough details for people to tell you how to proceed.

At the moment your story sounds much like what people say when they’ve been caught being money mules and the alternative doesn’t seem to add up.

If people’s suspicions are true then the marker is not coming off. If it is not it’d help to get some more details. Where was your wallet or purse when the card was taken, what were you doing, who was there etc.

You don't seem to realise why the bank don't believe you.

Unless someone guessed your PIN, you've told it to someone. Either directly or indirectly.

That's why they don't believe you.

You CAN remove your CIFAS marker even if it’s in category 6 if you’ve been used as a money mule or conned into fraud. You can send a letter to the head office of the bank with an explanation of what happened but they will only consider it if you have evidence to prove that you were used such as messages between you & the person etc send a letter explaining what happened with all the evidence attached as well as your bank closure letters. I can’t guarantee that they will remove it but it’s definitely worth the try.

I sent a detailed letter to Barclays and I went through Barclay's complaint procedure which put me on a waiting line for a response from them for nearly 180 days. Eventually, a friendly lady heard my story in detail and then forwarded all the information into the relevant department.

10 days later I receive a final resolution letter for Barclays and they acknowledge the CIFAS Marker should not have been placed and they have removed the CAT6 CIFAS and offered be compensation.

I wish people in this forum didn't treat everyone like a criminal. I understand there are many people who get Cifas markers by compromising their accounts intentionally then come here with a sob story but some of us are actually victims. Thankfully my case is sorted. Thanks everyone who gave some advice. :)

Immediately after Barclays closed my account I had opened one with NatWest for around 3 days before they shut that account down due to the cifas. Does this mean that NatWest may have also placed a cifas marker on my name? If so how can I resolve that as it was a result of Barclays the cifas was there in the first place.

Well have you checked if the CIFAS has been removed ?
    Would be my first step.

I was asking that on behalf of a family member:) It's totally unrelated to this topic hence it is on a different thread.

No, they won't place a CIFAS marker on you if they close your account down due to the fact you having a CIFAS marker placed on you from another bank/company. They just simply place a block on your account and close it.

You definitely need to submit another a DSAR to CIFAS as soon as possible to see if the CIFAS marker is still there.
