Just what?
Bear in mind the deposit is to secure access to early ordering, it's also clearly described as fully refundable at any point. OPs actions don't seem unreasonable to me.
(Considering spunking £70k on a mid size SUV on the other hand........)0 -

Didn't know it was going to be £70k when I paid the deposit......but getting out now seeing how this could end up as a money-non-saving disaster. :eek:0 -

It's difficult to take you seriously with comments like above!
Look at it another way, you'll only be £1k down, 1/70th or 0.014% .
You'd have been down a good amount had you had the car (even though you would have had the pleasure of owning it).0 -
Why? Its not uncommon to put down a refundable deposit on an upcoming model before its price has been announced.
I don't think that is something you would do (even though I don't know you personally).
To just fling down a deposit to some stranger on FB, just doesn't seem logical, I'm not sure what price the OP expected the car to be, but £30-40K doesn't seem out of the ordinary nowadays for a top spec hatchback , son Audi SUV competing with those Tesla, yeah it's going to be around the price of the competing models.0 -

1/70th is 1.4%, a 0.014% deposit on £70k would be £10.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Its not flinging down a deposit to a stranger on Facebook though is it? Its paying a deposit to Audi UK who were advertising on Facebook. Two very different things.0 -
Maybe it's just a whole different world for the rich. Could not imagine putting a deposit down on something I had not idea what the cost would be, especially when we're talking about a luxury car.
Its not uncommon. MINI are taking deposits for the new GP3, due 2020. No price, or even spec announced yet.
Ford generally take deposits for their latest RS cars well in advance of finalised spec or price.0 -

If you like your cars, and want access to something that will sell out quickly or have a very long order list then it makes sense.0
