Audi eTron reservation - refusing to refund - possible SCAM Alert

I put down the 1000 GBP deposit for the new all electric Audi eTron a while ago.
Having then recently learnt about the launch spec and prices announced in USA, I have decided not to go for it.
Called up Audi UK customer service (using number provided in the confirmation email I got when I put down the deposit) and asked for the refund.
They took down all the details and advised the money will be with me in 7 days.
It's now 25 days since then and I have not got any refund back :(
I've been on the phone with them and they just keep giving me excuses of all sorts, the 1st 2 phone calls were with reps who would not give a s**t, the next 2 were a bit more professional - but I still haven't got the money back.

It's all becoming a bad taste now and I'm just left wondering if I've been scammed after all - I checked all the usual things like Web certificate, URL etc and it looked legit at that time but this sinking feeling is beginning to grow as everyday passes without receiving the refund.

Has anyone here been in a similar boat as mine re Audi eTron and gotten back the deposit money so far ?

How and who and where did you reserve it with? Where and how did you find it? Was it your local dealer or Audi UK?

Have you spoken to your Audi dealer on a number NOT from the email?
  • This is where my main suspicion that I've probably been scammed comes to my mind.........
because I saw this ad in my facebook app and then followed the links from that to register and pay up.
The number on the email was 08000497101 and that looks like legit Audi customer service number.
I have never been into an Audi dealership so far and have no local Audi Rep as such that I'm in touch with unfortunately.
    :(

You handed over £1k on the basis of a Facebook ad?
  • I would have thought you would have been more circumspect after your last debacle with the log cabin?

This page seems legitimate - https://store.audi.co.uk/reservation-tc

How did you pay - credit card - call your bank to discuss a section 75 claim, or a chargeback if you paid by debit card

As per the last post Audi seem quite happy to refund the deposit in full

7.2 Where you have not made a binding order for the purchase of a production vehicle, we will fully refund an online deposit at any time upon a request made to Audi Customer Services. Please telephone 0800 049 7101 or email etronenquiries@audi.co.uk

I would suggest calling and if the person you are speaking to is unable to help then ask to be put through to their supervisor, get their names and keep these so you know who you have been speaking to.

What have they said is causing the issue?
  • Got a call from Audi rep this morning (they are probably reading this thread....) - he said he got my details (so looks like my order was legit...) and will look into it (hope he won't call back and say they never got my order/money....) - fingers crossed.
He did not give me any specifics on the delay reason...sounded like he was just passed this case to work upon.
Hopefully getting somewhere although its 25th day in the running for a refund request !

Blimey! Over £70k! No wonder you wanted your deposit back.
  • Puts down £1,000 deposit for a car through facebook.
Then reads reviews and decides to cancel.
    Just what?

I'm not sure of your point? I take it you know about facebook advertising? I've seen £200K cars advertised via facebook.
