Can someone tell me why these houses in Liverpool are so cheap?

    and a spare cathedral..

If you did work online; coding, designing, trading, editing, proof reading etc. location shouldn't be so important. Good broadband would be though.

I'm retired but still do some online language teaching. My money would go a lot further up north, but although I've lived abroad and sometimes visit oooh... north of Watford, I'm a southerner and have no wish to move. If you can move you could do away with the worry of renting or buying in the south.

OP those houses aren’t that cheap, cheap is relative.

You can buy in Birkenhead and take the train into Liverpool.

    The issues are many,
Firstly the areas are bad, you can be beaten up by kids or get robbed. Your car will get vandalised.
Secondly the good places aren’t that expensive so no one with a decent job lives in the chav areas. Most will be trapped there
    Thirdly schools etc are bad

Thinking of it one night on Stanley road the chavs blocked up the road and robbed every vehicle passing through. Bus was cleared of all money. The police did not arrive and when they did one wpc and a guy arrived against 30kids. Yeah I would not want to live there.

On the other hand, you could just buy the whole lot, and blow it all up and rebuild a new block of houses. The houses mostly have tiny courtyard and no off street parking.

I would suggest op looks at better areas in Liverpool where life is a lot lot nicer, however saying that I even worked in bootle and never had any issues on the streets . But can’t forget Stanley road incident.

Wales has increased quite a lot. Cardiff was a bargain 2-3 years ago, but its not like tthat anymore, even Newport has seen crazy increases.

Interesting article on what is happening with Cardiff in the FT.

In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Liverpool has two universities, two premier league teams, an airport, a ferry terminus and a growing tourism industry (highest number of Grade 1 listed buildings in the country outside London) thanks to the docks being tarted up, so it's not an employment black hole in the same way as most former mining areas. You would have to research job options very carefully before moving anywhere though.

According to official statistics Liverpool has very few Grade 1 listed buildings. It does however have a lot of Grade 2 listed buildings.

Liverpool has a fair amount of depopulated areas with lots of empty homes, so I guess that's the reason. They can be picked up for a song, but you may not have any neighbours and would be easy pickings for crime. There are moves afoot in some of these areas to try to create communities by selling for a song and lending or even granting money for the new owners to improve the houses.

Bootle has (or at least did this summer) a particular problem with what appeared to be big open transport ships taking recycleables. One was loaded up each day and the smell was unlike anything else. It pervaded about a mile downwind across the residential area. Can’t imagine how residents put up with it.

Merseyside is a great area though overall. Nicest people in GB in my experience

Hardly crazy. Very rational as those who work in Bristol and surrounding areas can live in Newport and no longer pay for the Severn crossing.
