  • they do outgrow the chewing, especially after 2 years - maybe wait till then before spending loads on the conservatory/furniture?;)

the ebay is a one-off - normally it's small dribs and drabs, but every little helps x
  • Hi WorkingHardDFW!
I've been reading your diary for a while now and I just wanted to say hats off to you - you really are an inspiration.
You will see that I have only started posting today, which co-incides with the fact that today has to be one of my lowest days ever. I agree with what both you and Lucielle have said - when you are in debt, it consumes your every waking thought.
I would love to be like you - setting out your goal and making steps towards it, you are doing so well.
Please keep posting, you keep people like me going.

  • Wow - Thanks MissOptimistic - kind words much appreciated :o

Each small challenge helps focus me a little bit on moving forward and helps me take my eye of the big picture which at times can seem a little overwhelming.

From your signature you've already started with the £10 a day challenge. Every extra bit of cash is money off your debt. I'm sure that for a few months at the beginning just not spending on the CC's was a challenge in itself. Good Luck

Thats FSM I'm sure he will grow out of it in time its just us having any house left when he does :p

Hi there - your post of yesterday could easily have been written by me, except my OH keeps looking at the cost of a new motor bike....."it's only......."

    Oh, and I don't have a dog.

But apart from that it could have been written by me :rotfl:

Hope you feel a bit better today x

  • Well what a roller coaster week this has been.

Many apologies for the tale of woe I posted earlier in the week. Lets face it we all get those down in the dump days and I had a few of them but I picked myself up, dusted myself down and I'm getting on with it. A few things have been listed on ebay, some mystery shops picked up so I am feeling more positive:D .

Ref the OH and his craving to change his car. Well as posted earlier he thought it was a no go since credit had dried up....well apparently not. He came in last night with a loan offer for £20k     from which he plans to: pay off the existing car loan (currently £6.6k from the £20k originally), sell his current vehicle and buy a newer/different make/model of car.

Well what can i say that is printable...................
MEN............CARs.........DEBT............My particular OH

The upshot is that he is increasing our debt by £15k

So if I take what is the now static debt of our car loan out of the debt which we are working so damn hard to clear we are left with £23K of credit card debt to clear but with £465 (the proposed loan repayments will be the same) less to throw at the debts each month. The result is that our DF (-the car loan) is more or less the same.....

We had a discussion (sort of there was some shouting :o ) about how he could increase our debt by £15k when we already own £32k but its just not washing........I could rant/dicuss for ages but I'm in the calming down zone at present and I will overcome this great bit hurdle:D

To cap this today the fun and games with the great reduction in the mortgage rate coincided with us trying to negotiate our new mortgage as our fix runs out the end of Jan. We've got a new Fix offer from Abbey but all the advice seemed to refer to trackers as the best options. We'd got a quote on a decent tracker and we in the process of completing the forms only to find it was pulled today. Luckily we'd managed to book our existing lenders best tracker but its got a collar (min rate it will do down to) so wasn't as good as the previous one. I think we'll just sit tight since we don't need to action anything until early Jan and take advice but it was frustrating on top of yesterdays performance.

Added to this I've been eating for England so no weight loss this week I feel.

good news - one of my ebay items is up to £16 with 8 days to go :T. Small things bringing comfort.

  • Hi there, I can commiserate with you greatly about the car, my OH is also a petrol head, we currently pay £263 per month for a car that will never be ours - I think next August we can hand it back and call it quits, but that would leave us without any transport. I could get a loan to buy a new car then, but this would increase our debt total, at the moment, I don't count the car as 'debt' I think of it more as renting the car.
Unfortunately, in our line of work we have to go out and visit customers and we need a decent car to give the right impression (shallow I know, but true) anyway, if your OH now has the car he wants, you may find that he is extra helpful in trying to shift the other debt?

  • Yes thats where my OH is coming from. He gets a car allowance every month which does cover the costs of the car loan however I just find it difficult to spend that sort of money on something which depreciates so much.....I just wanted to be DF.

Mind you if in 12 months time we are left with the mortgage and the car loan thats not bad going. I'll just try not to think about how it would have been without the extra.

I like the idea of renting the car.............£500pm though !!!!**!!

  • Thats also true about him being a happier person, rather than a grumpy so and so. I did also flag my intention that any bonus coming his way next year will be pointed very firmly at the credit cards.
