  • Morning all :hello:

Hope everyone is ok. Just planning what I want to achieve this weekend after successful day yesterday. Got last of presents bar a couple of gift cards I'll get this weekend and wrote nearly all my cards, just some from the smalls that need supervising :rotfl:

    Today:
    Small shop, stick to list
Review Christmas food list and plan when to buy what (all as far in advance as possible) I won't be doing any food shopping too close to Christmas
Write last few cards and get addresses for a couple
Wrap some presents that need to go in post and post, use recycled packaging
    Update our reverse advent calendar
    Make mince pies
    Freeze some of ^^
Make something for lunch boxes, possibly a quiche as I want to make pavlova on Christmas Day and currently only have 1 frozen egg white :o
Walk later with friend, enjoy her great company and the fresh air
Put masking tape on floor in a room to measure out true size of a piece of furniture before we consider buying it rather than just 'guestimate' it :rotfl:
Try and sort through coat rack which seems to multiply when your back is turned :rotfl:
Freezer as basis for all meals this weekend to continue use up. Make some black bean soup in slow cooker
Get iron out  don't worry frugal pals, it's just to iron some hamas beads my smalls have made for each other as a very MSE birthday gift to each other :rotfl:
  • Purps I've got the black bean soup for lunch mmmmm

    Hi Weekend Frugalistas,
Busy weekend here, so just having a few minutes while I wait for potatoes to cook. No spending planned today, if all goes well:
*Made a fish pie for tomorrow as we are out early & not back till the 'takeaway danger zone', so we can heat this pie up instead. Have used all the trimmings, tail sections & a spare salmon fillet from when I cut up & froze last month's fish delivery.
*Wrap a small gift for my sister - recycled wrappings & ribbon from my stash.....what else?
*Did a Onepoll survey - hoping to get to cash out a whole lot quicker now it's dropped to £20 instead of £40, which just took too long for me to keep up the motivation.
*Invited out for a meal at friends' house tonight.
*Picked a little bunch of fresh parsley from the garden.
*Watered sweet pea seedlings - nice to see them popping up, especially as I found one pack down the back of a chest of drawers while sorting out Mum's house & it was past its 'sow by' date by several years. Always worth a try, unless it's something that defo needs to be fresh seed.
*Bake a granary loaf - on its 2nd proving, so should get it baked before we go out.
*mr f working & had a really early start, so took breakfast as well as lunch with him, plus a coffee in his thermos mug, to avoid the lure of buying bacon rolls & coffee when he arrived.
*Posted a small ebay package which could just go in the post box & updated our ebay account.
That'll be it for today, I think. I need to do a but of tidying before we go out & also show the living room a bit of Dyson action.
I shan't get time to post tomorrow, so have a good weekend, everyone.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Afternoon all :)
Surviving babysitting marathon #1, older GDs are playing upstairs and have been very good :) DD1 and her OH will be coming back for them this afternoon. Then have to head out to DD2's to look after the 2 little ones, who are poorly and grumpy again, for the evening. DD2 and her husband won't be too late back at least, as they haven't had much sleep for a couple of nights with GS again :(
Not much in the way of moneysaving going on:
Made pancakes for kids for breakfast
Took them to the park to play for free
Then it all went downhill as I took them into the supermarket to choose what they wanted for lunch (crisps, doughnuts, exotic fruits, hummus and ham for sandwiches etc etc) and walked back via the sweetie shop. Still, there will be loads of sandwich bits to last the week, as they haven't eaten much of it.
Came back and DD2 arrived with 2 grumpy littlies, gave them some lunch too, though they wouldn't eat much.
Lady came to look at sofa bed in the lounge as we have decided to sell it and replace it with something else, as it isn't a terribly comfy sofa, and takes up a lot of space. She wants to buy it but has to arrange for it to be picked up. Hopefully she won't mess about. She seemed nice, so hope for the best. Several other people want to look at it if she doesn't want it, but I would rather avoid a lengthy parade of people wanting to inspect the sofa!

I shall have to head off to DD2's at about 6pm so hopefully DD1 will collect her two before much longer to give me chance to sort myself out a bit before I have to leave.
  • Hello :hello:
Managed a long sleep last night, albeit quite broken with the weather. It was very windy and there was an awful lot of noise outside. However, I feel ok today and have had a productive one.
Managed to catch up with bestie for an hour this morning, which was fab as I haven't seen her for a fortnight. Then did my tutoring.
After tutoring I went to meet dd at the hairdressers. She's wanting to change hair colour and I want her to get it done properly rather than a home bleach job so we went to talk to my hairdresser about it (she has an appointment next week if the skin test is ok). Then walked into town to pick up a parcel. Stayed well away from the shops - although I was tempted.
Since I got home I've wrapped up a load of presents and written some cards - I don't send many these days at all so it hasn't taken that long...
Now just cooking up some almost out of date chicken burgers for dinner - the only thing both of my kids will actually eat.

Morning all hope everyone is well! Sorry I've not checked in this week, it seems to be one thing after another, DS has been poorly with a cold and very clingy, I've had a few late shifts at work etc

    - Pop into town to finish Xmas shopping
    - Check online banking
    - Write up a meal plan for the week
    - Write up a shopping list
    - List a few things on Ebay/FB selling page
    - Clean bathroom
    - Shower and wash hair

I think that's all for now! Hope everyone has a lovely relaxed Sunday x

  • Morning frugal pals :hello:

A quick list, as like DNMS I want to have a productive hour so we can do other things when DH brings smalls back from swimming lessons:

Move dining room round and clean
    Bake quiche, made pastry yesterday
Make crumble topping, prep everything for tea so we can chuck it in oven on return
    Wrap some gifts later
Work out what I can do with used pillow, I really don't want them to go to landfill
Out later for part of our Christmas present to each other as a family, tickets already bought. Will take contraband snacks and drinks in with us :o not sure about parking as it's in a town unfamiliar to us, hoping to get it for free
    Get last 3 gifts :T

Have a good day everyone. Purps.

    Morning all :)
Liking the sound of people's plans for today :)
The weather appears to be dry at the moment - will get a wash going! Done, but the weather turned before the load had finished :( Hoping to be able to hang it out tomorrow, as the BBC tell me that it will be sunny and breezy - we will see!
Been to a Sunday market / flea market this morning, bought 2 quite large gammon joints for £10, also bargainous cheese and bacon. Now need to find space for the gammon joints in the fridge or freezer - must check dates! I don't always like buying perishables from markets, but trust this stallholder, as his refrigerated trailer is always spotlessly clean, and he is from a well known local company. Prices are always good :)

    Other things:
Finish putting loft bedroom back in original state after GDs staying / playing in it. Just got to hoover and put the baby's travel cot back up. Done
Clean up kitchen Sort of done
    Clean bathroom Not yet
Plenty of stuff for lunch after shopping with GDs yesterday :rotfl:
Will make fish pie for dinner, and an apple crumble :)Stirred the last quarter of a jar (probably a bit less than this actually) into the apple before putting on the crumble topping - OMG, it tastes gorgeous! Only tried it because I wanted it out of the fridge.

Ought to start writing Christmas cards and plan rest of what is needed for Christmas :oI got as far as finding the Christmas cards, and have started a written list.
Sold an ebay item, and heard back re some garden pots that I am freecycling.

Sofa lady got back and my old sofa bed will be collected on Wednesday. Glad it is going to a good home :) Lots of people wanted it, I suppose it is the time of year when people have extra guests staying. We have used it a few times, but I don't really want people sleeping in the lounge :o We have a spare bedroom, and that will have to be enough. She has got a bargain really, as it has loose covers etc going with it, but she will get good use of it, and we don't find it comfy as a sofa (it is a much better bed). I will use the money towards something else - will be scouring the local charity furniture shops tomorrow!
