Evening all :hello:
I'm literally just home from parents evening. So it's been another nsd for me, but I'm completely wiped out now. I'm not 100% better (still coughing and rattly chest) so a full teaching day followed by that has meant that I'm just desperate to get into bed.
Pleased to hear that the house is drying out a bit CLF.
Not much else for me to report. My finances are dire at the moment and I am very time poor so whilst I'm trying to keep the faith I'm doing very little other than work and sleep. Can't believe I've only been back 2 days! Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Hi All
I've had a horrible week
I forgot to cater a buffet on tuesday - had the dates mixed up, the organiser was really lovely but i've felt terrible since, i took them a tin of homemade Brownies yesterday to say sorry and i felt a bit better
yesterday morning my train was delayed and I had to get to a meeting, there wasn't enough transfer time for my second train so I ran the mile in the rain on the way back the stupid work travel system had given me a ticket for the 12th so had to buy a new ticket
Yesterday lunchtime 40 minutes late delivering a buffet, we live in Cardiff and the Xmas shoppers are out in force- was only supposed to be a 10 minute journey
Then after all that...after a month of bullying my son finally retaliated and stabbed a boy in the eye with a pencil - fortunately he hit eyelid not eyeball and the child is ok, we've been reporting his saying he's been bullied and this child was tearing up my sons schoolwork yesterday - when i asked him to explain what had happened he absolutely broke his heart - was horrible - guess who is staying in break time today! so off to speak to the headteacher today
I have a mountain of buffet dishes to do
Clean and sort kitchen and fridges
Wash towels - tumble dry, weather is bad!
Finish sewing bunting for friend
Skype with boss
Chase invoices
Put fallen xmas stocking back up and clean up the mess made by the elf
Hope everyone else is having a better week

Morning,
Yesterday we polished and left out our shoes for St Nicholas, who had blessed us with small gifts when we woke up.
Today's list:
Wash hair and let it dry naturally
Open curtains fully
Close curtains before it gets dark
Renew library loans
RM survey
Correctly delivered survey
Bake for local Christmas fayre this week end
Educate children for free
Make bread
Soak porridge
Stick to meal plan
All food and drink from stores
Turn off lights and appliances not in use
Dry washing on airers
Earlier this week someone drove into OH car whilst it was parked outside the house and drove off. This has taken a lot of both of our time already and will continue to do so. We have been given a car to use until ours is repaired which is predicted to be late January!
We need to continue with finding and buying presents for those on our list, ideally I would like to finish this tomorrow, not much hope as we don't even have ideas for everyone :rotfl:Normally we are better organised, I'm finding our current situation is beginning to cause anxiety.
We need to decide on how we are celebrating Advent today, maybe stitching a Christmas decoration.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Went out with DS and DH this morning to talk to teacher, came home and snapped the front door key in the lock, doh! the key was in the inside of the back door so couldn't get in that way. Managed to get both bits to a local hardware shop and they made us a new key and they had apple pay - result, plus I got a 2 mile walk in.

Afternoon Frugalistas,
My sympathies to all who are having a horrible week, 'effing disasters' or poorliness.
I had a good night's sleep & actually feel worse for it!! Never mind. On days like these, caffiene is my friend.
Todays money saving efforts:
*Small meal planned for tonight (use-it-ups) as we are going to a meeting followed by a 'do' & a buffet.
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Put a colour on my yukky roots - can't believe I always used to get this done at the salon back when I was spendy. So easy to do at home with my own fair hands.
*Stewed the rest of our windfall apples as they were starting to go over. Cut some brown bits out, but defo enough for a couple of generous desserts.
*Froze sausages......getting near their date & I haven't had time to make them into sausage rolls as I'd hoped. Will do them nearer to Christmas.
*Remind mr f to withdraw his sealed pot cash out of the bank, so I don't have to do double accounting when I am tinkering with the budget.
*Finished sorting all wrapped Christmas gifts into bags ready for delivering to people, starting this Saturday.
*Cut down & altered another too big gift bag to re-make as one the perfect size for what I wanted to put in it, thus avoiding a little unplanned spend.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Knit a bit more of a gift for a family member.
*Knit a bit more jumper - am not able to knit for long atm as still suffering badly from tendonitis, which according to the NHS website, lasts 6 weeks plus. Oh joy!
*Checked ebay to see if non-payer has put her hand in her wallet yet. Nope!
*Overnight laundry drying on heated airer. Had to do an extra load as mr f soaked loads of towels yesterday when he was defrosting the freezer.......not bothered though...just really pleased to get it defrosted, as the Ice Monster was about to break out. Couldn't do it myself as the scraping & bashing would have been too painful for my dodgy thumb/wrist.
By the way, thanks to those who commented regarding our new coffee machine dilemma. We have come up with a plan now, but I think I'll save the saga of our poor relationship with coffee machines for today's DFW diary post.
Love to all,
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Afternoon all

Sorry to hear that you are having such a bad week Natlie, and hope your son is ok.
Horrible, dark, drizzly weather again
It isn't even 2pm yet, and I really ought to put the light on instead of sitting typing in the dark - I can hardly see the keyboard
Went to a market in the next town, also looked in on a regular flea market and a few CS. Got a few bits to sell on in the flea market Bread, veg and fruit at the market stalls, smiled at the old E European guy who fills up the bowls on the veg stall and he popped a couple of free avocados into my bag
Didn't think I had that effect these days :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Found an almost new Jacques Vert coat in one of the charity shops. It was £25, but is immaculate, hardly worn. It is a size too big but I don't think that matters too much with coats, as it is nice to have extra room for more jumpers etc when it is cold. The only question in my mind is whether I will have occasion to wear it - it isn't the sort of coat that goes with muddy dogs, carting boxes of tat around, or gardening  If I don't wear it I can always sell it I suppose, but I really hope I do!
Walked to the post office and library once we got back, to return a book and post something for DD
Popped into Icyland for the few grocery bits that I needed - got a bagful for 29p plus £8 of shopping vouchers from RM surveys
OH made BLTs for lunch, for a treat
Did a bit of business paperwork
Checked banks and updated spending diary
Still need to sort out loft bedroom ready for GCs tomorrow night, make a bolognese, do RM surveys stuff and tidy up :eek:0 -
Lol, Dawn......Many a good tune played on an old fiddle, as they say...........though these days I mostly only have that effect on elderly bikers - one of the key reasons mr f generally vetoes us having a trip out to Matlock Bath, lol x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

Matlock Bath is a strange place, isn't it? Never actually stopped there, but have passed through as we have relatives in Matlock itself. It looks a bit like a 1970s seaside resort but without the sea!0
