Thanks for the indormation from you both that has made it clearer for me.
The thing about the Dell outlet is it says delivery can take 14 days whereas I kind of wanted to go buy it today which is why I was looking at Argos and Curry’s.
I saw another one on Argos which seems to be HDD too but was a bit higher spec with a 3.2 processor, 8gb Ram and 1tb storage for 299.99.
My answer should be No, within a year or even less, your computer boot time would take (more than) a couple of minutes, your browser would take a minute (or more) to open it.
Some people would be very patient enough to wait for these operations, their answer would be Yes.
Your computer needs to survive highly disk intensive Windows update operations (now twice a year) I am not sure if your low spec hard disk computer can overcome Windows update operations, as I have seen so many issues with Windows 10 update.
I firmly believe that the SSD can be the practical solution to overcome Windows 10 upgrade problems. (Anyway, all of the notebooks will be the SSD/ flash memory based fairly soon.) Good Luck.0 -
Have you looked at sites like Laptops Direct to see what they offer? What about checking for Dell refurbs via Ebay or similar?
BTW - an SSD doesn't just improve boot up time; it improves the whole user experience - anything which requires disk read/write activity (which is most things) works so much faster..0 -
Thanks I’ll keep having a look around. All I can do really.0

If you buy a laptop that has SATA, you can have a 128GB SSD to replace the HDD for £20. As mentioned above, whilst HDDs still give more storage, SSDs use less power and are faster, and have no moving parts. You can have the argument for a desktop computer, but a laptop takes more abuse and battery life is important - and unlike just 1 or 2 years ago, SSDs have got so much cheaper as to be the only choice (IMO) for a laptop.0

I take all that on board and appreciate that.
As someone mentioned above it would be adequate and might be slow but for what I do I believe that would be alright.
I just feel people are trying to say super super fast is what I need. When in reality I don’t need it to be like that for what I did realistically.
Theres superfast, adequate and slug slow. The laptops you have linked to will barely be adequate and over time will become slug slow.
Heres a decent laptop for the same price with an SSD.

Though personally i'd be going for a business quality refurb machine at that pricepoint.
Lenovo Thinkpad T450 8GB, 240GB SSD Win 10.... £284.99 delivered.

Thinkpads can be very fast, my OH had a Thinkpad from work that had Win10 pro, SSD, touch screen, etc, it was lightning fast to start, was very lightweight and had 9 to 10 hours battery life. The problem I found was the track pad (mouse pad) was a bit awkward. The one in the link may not have touch screen though...
Beware that most business computers don’t include a DVD writer, however a USB powered DVD reader/writer is only about £12 on eBay.0 -

Yes, the 440 and its predecessors have the "unusual" trackpad.
The link i gave is for a 450 which has the more traditional (better) track pad.0 -
There you are ... including an SSD ... £260 delivered -

I thought the T450 was a much better spec for the price, but if you select 16GB RAM and the 240GB SSD (as the link suggests) the price changes to £314.99 rather than £199.99.0

Theres no need for 16GB RAM in a laptop for day to day use. 8GB is fine, hence the price i quoted of £284.99.0
