Those of you who are in the process of leaving OFTM, please will you keep the rest of us updated on how smoothly, or not, this goes?

Much as I would like to leave them (and I started then cancelled a switch), their totally erratic DD increases, amongst other things, leads me to fear that a switchover now could easily turn very messy. I guess I am a just coward!

As it's up to the new supplier you nominate to manage any switch, I suggest you choose wisely, perhaps by consulting the feedback thread for the supplier .

There are only limited reasons as to why an existing supplier may object to a switch request (e.g. you are in debt to the supplier)

If you have always agreed to pay monthly via direct debit with the existing supplier (and paid the monthly direct debit amounts as they were due), it would be very unusual for a customer to be classed as in debt to that supplier
    - but that doesn't mean you won't necessarily still owe the supplier some money come the final bill.

In the exceptional cases where you are in debt to the supplier, I would expect any customer so affected would be fully aware of that position before attempting to switch supplier.
  • Had enough of them and switched to Avro Energy this weekend.

I have contacted OFTM regarding a request to cancel DD . No Response so far.

Contacted my bank and had this message:

A Direct Debit is an agreed payment arrangement between yourself and another company. The payment amounts can be fixed, or they can vary depending on your specific agreement.

Please note that the company does not give us notice of the amount to be taken or when the payment will be taken.

For questions and changes relating to your Direct Debit with Foxglove Energy Supplier you will need to speak with them directly.

Please reply back if you want us to cancel this Direct Debit Foxglove Energy Supplier and we will carry out your request.

We also advise that you contact the company in question and tell them that this Direct Debit has now been cancelled to make sure no further payments are requested.

The next DD is due to go out on the 5th so what should I do as I don't want them taking even more money I might not get back ?

    @paters,

Have you checked both TopCashBack and Quidco for CashBack deals on First Utility?

When I joined them following a long stint with Ovo Energy I managed to get a £100 cashback and £60 in Amazon Credit, their costs, as offered to me in February 2018, were not competitive, hence the move to OFTM, which may prove a bit of a false economy by the years end.

editor1, I went though Quidco's own comparison this time (£40 vs £25 with the Cheap Energy Club), but it looks like TCB have the best deal for First Utility at the moment.

A few years back it was well worth switching several times a year using different cashback or comparison sites. But now, I think the best bet is to get a fixed deal as there's not much advantage with variable rates these days. Of course you could always chance your luck with one of the new name upstarts... but I won't be making that mistake again!

This is a decision that only you can take. What makes you think that you will not get your money back? All credit balances are 100% protected by the Ofgem Safety Net.

Well I have taken screenshots of my account balance and meter readings from the OFTM website as proof just incase they change things.

    Update:

After I left OFTM, I noticed they had set up a second direct debit. The first payment was due 2 weeks after I left and for the new monthly winter amount. The day before it was due to do out, I asked my bank to stop it (which they did). That was 2 days ago and, so far, OFTM haven’t tried to take it again or to contact me about it.

I’m checking my bank account every day.

I just checked my OFTM statements and they have created a statement based on an estimated reading for up to 2 weeks after I left them. They are useless!!

As your new supplier is responsible for managing your switch, you need to find out from the new supplier why the old supplier is having to estimate your final meter reading with them, and doesn't know the date the new supplier says they started supplying you.

Presumably the estimated final reading used by OFTM does not match the reading the new supplier used as start reading - something else to ask your new supplier to resolve.

If you consider your old supplier "useless", I shudder to think what you think of your new supplier.

Because OFTM are monumentally incompetent at best and potential scammers at the worst.
They can't be contacted most of the time, use over estimates when metre readings have been submitted, change direct debits every other week and the list goes on!
