:) True, Little compares to a high end hifi...Bose are not as good as they make out. They sound OK, but, for the price I'd expect something that stands out a bit more...

I had my old hifi hooked up to a nas and chromecast enabled, but, when we remodelled the house it didn't really have a place.
I've put in Google home hubs, AudioPro and Sonos, While none are purists hifi, the hubs are great for radio and streaming podcasts etc.
The Audio Pro and Sonos with a deezer premium account gives FLAC audio and I've found that with a choice of 30 million albums, it sort of beats my CD and vinyll collection somewhat...:D and sounds very very good and the NAS still contributes occassionally.
No leaving the doors open and turning the hifi up so you can hear it in another room either....Music everywhere...even the garden..

Each to their own and everyone hears and enjoys their music differently, just enjoy whatever floats your boat..
I've gone sonos connect feeding Arcam in lounge and play 1s around house.

Not as good as a "proper" HiFi. They're little mono speakers, which have no depth

If you've ripped your CDs to mp3 on the PC, then transferred those to mobile devices, you've effectively thrown some of your music away. mp3 is a "'lossy" coding format, and it drops some information from the CD in order to squeeze it into a smaller file.

If you still have the CDs, and you want the best out of them, download something like dBPoweramp or EAC, and rip them to the PC in FLAC.

Then get a network player which will replay them directly from the PC. You can get apps for the tablets which will act as remote control, without routing the music through the tablet.

We have a standard Echo ... for the price (~£70) and size I think the sound is excellent. If you are looking for something convenient I don't think you'd be disappointed. Great for listening to the radio too.

Don't know about echo but I would imagine like the Sonos it's streamed over internet. I think you need to go somewhere and listen to a couple of things as people say things like Bose, Echo and Sonos are not HIFI but you may well be happy with sound quality only you know if it's good enough for you.
  • Another consideration is your choice of amp/speakers/all-in-one combined with a Google ChromeCast Audio. That's a great way of getting multi-room music.

the Google Home sounds better than the echo. You listen to the radio on both by just saying "Play Radio six music" or, whatever your poison is.
