Employer accusing workers of abusing companies sick pay

Hello,

Just let you know, that's ongoing thing, and your opinion would make difference.
THE EMPLOYER HAVE ITS OWN ABSENCE POLICY.
Even so, if worker goes on sick, most of times straight away they get informed they stopped companies sick pay because abusing it. After worker returns to works, they paying this sick pay, by not finding that worker abusing it.
There for is clearly pressure for worker to come to work being sick, because other way he wont get pay till he comes back
Do you think is normal?

Is this voluntary sick pay, or SSP?

If you're not already in one, join a union, and encourage your workmates to do the same.

Company sick pay is usually discretional so the employer can choose whether they pay it or not. They can even stop paying SSP if they think the illness isn't genuine.

Your company probably has a history of its employees taking the mick with sickness. Most (if not all) do.

well if employer pays Companies sick pay to everyone and without good reason stops pay to one worker i would amuse that would be victimizing process.

if employer not paying companies sick pay because they do believe worker was not sick, they should not claim SSP from government otherwise this would be a SSP fraud, am I right?

No, you would be wrong. It could be, under certain circumstances but with most company sick pay schemes the employer has very wide discretion whether to pay or not.

I work for a company as a contractor. In 5 years of being a contractor, not one of the contractors I've worked with has had a day off sick. You just don't get paid if you're off sick.

    No, you are not.

The government does not pay SSP, the employer does! At one time smaller employers could claim the money back indirectly but that stopped some years ago.

The government sets the rules for SSP and employers are legally obliged to pay it to eligible employees. Under very limited circumstances the employer can withhold SSP. If they do that they are obliged to issues the employee with a statement as to why. The employee can challenge this with HMRC if they feel the employer was wrong.

There is no legal obligation to treat SSP and company sick pay (if any) in the same way.

Sorry, but you appear to be having a rant about something you clearly know very little about!

so you mean if company pays SSP with the reason because you sick, and refuse to pay csp with the reason you not been sick, to me it does not sound fairly
