That's a relief. For a minute there I thought you only entered the thread to have a pop rather than join the debate and tell us all what you would do. Interesting to note that two other people also agree with me & not one of you has gone after them in the same way you all bit with me. Funny that eh. LOL
If you mean silvercar is the other poster who agrees with you, I for one have made my opinion quite clear in replies to their posts.
It really isn't all about you.
For me, this thread has run its course and I'll leave you to debate further with anyone who is interested.0 -

As much as I do agree with you, I also have to say that I find the tone and overtly sarcastic content of some of your posts on the issue a bit grating! Calling someone 'dear' is also quite patronising. Maybe that is why some other posters have come back at you?
I do agree that the post by Money was not relevant though.0 -

Thank you x
I have been sarcastic yes, you'll note that was a response to the tone i was greeted with. I only responded in kind to the snarky comments being made to me & I think that's fair enough.0 -
Well for a start I'd translate the forms myself without any further delays to give me an idea of exactly what I'm dealing with so that I can decide if there's going to be financial implications if I sign.
Then I'd be thinking about looking into said brothers assets if he still has any remaining in the uk to see if there's any money tied up anywhere that can be released.
I'd then be asking other family members what they think the best course of action is & if there's anything they want/can do to assist.
Then I'd be looking at contacting agencies/embassies for advice on if there are any funds available in these circumstances to assist.
How's that for a start? And all I paid for was a translation. Happy days.
Oh Marvel, don't go quiet on me now0 -
Why are you quoting your own responses =/0

Just out of interest, where would people get a translation of the Thai document from? If it's a legal document I doubt that anybody from a Thai restaurant or even a university Thai speaker would be able to translate it meaningfully. And the idea that something like Google translate would produce all the relevant nuances is plain daft. Think of all the posts on the wills board where people ask "what does this wording mean?" and it's written in bloody English!
If you were a German in Germany and were suddenly presented with a legal document in English that you had to agree to, you wouldn't go to your local ex-pat fish and chip shop or Irish pub to have it explained to you. Would you? The translation needs a Thai speaker who is at least conversant with Thai law.
The only thing I agree with gilett is that IF (and it's a big IF) the OP does want to do anything, then they could approach the Thai Embassy for advice. But I don't think that will happen - and I don't particularly blame the OP if they don't.
What I don't understand is if the brother has needed a tracheotomy for quite some time, why they are not already dead.
Also gilett, why do you have a hunch that somebody will "have" to pay repatriation costs? Who is going to repatriate the body? (Many years ago when I was particularly stupid and reckless we sometimes travelled without insurance. I always said to my girlfriend "If I happen to die there, don't bother to send my body home."0 -

The brother is probably on ICU with a breathing tube in his mouth attached to the ventilator. That's done as an emergency when the person cant breathe on their own.
The tracheostomy is done later as a non-emergency because its a better solution long term for somebody on a ventilator.0 -

Because I'm still waiting for a reply from marvel. I was asked what I would do. I replied. My reply was not answered. That's why I re-quoted it as a reminder to marvel that he still hadn't responded.
I thought that was obvious by the line "oh marvel don't go quiet on me" included in the quote. Tho why on earth I needed to explain that I'm not sure... lol0
