Medical Expenses: Brother Very Ill in Thailand

It's OK sweetie, you can share one of my assumptions xx0 -
20 years ago the Thai brother tried to take the OPs inheritance.
Now he is back again after spending all of his own money and not planning for his future, using similar guilt trip tactics.
Meanwhile the OP has lived within their means making sensible provisions for retirement.
Have to say I would find it astonishing if someone in these circumstances chose to impoverish themselves for the rest of their life for someone that had treated them as described, sibling or not. Pleased that the OP saw through it.0 -
My point exactly, you'd at least try but the op doesn't seem to even want to do that much. There could be other ways of securing funding but It's not even about money. It's about flesh and blood. Thats what I find so callous about it and I'm more surprised none of the rest of you find the ops approach somewhat callous.
Surely you'd at least TRY to do something?Like what?
To repeat like what?0 -
You might not need to impoverish yourself though.0

To repeat like what?
Well for a start I'd translate the forms myself without any further delays to give me an idea of exactly what I'm dealing with so that I can decide if there's going to be financial implications if I sign.
Then I'd be thinking about looking into said brothers assets if he still has any remaining in the uk to see if there's any money tied up anywhere that can be released.
I'd then be asking other family members what they think the best course of action is & if there's anything they want/can do to assist.
Then I'd be looking at contacting agencies/embassies for advice on if there are any funds available in these circumstances to assist.
How's that for a start? And all I paid for was a translation. Happy days.0 -

When called out on it, I think I'll call everyone by patronising pet names for responding to what I said instead of what I sort of not really maybe meant, because it was obviously really silly of them to think they were engaging with another person honestly instead of being the victim of some WUM.
*titter* you are awful, but I like you xx0 -

My 'banging on' comment was referring to your general comments throughout the thread not specifically in relation to one word.
But as you were, dear...
If my general comments through the thread are 'banging on' (because they didn't correspond with yours) then surely your own replies therfore also constitute 'banging on'?
Anyhoo it's been fun guys & gals but I'm off to bed now. Don't go getting all wound up and hammering the daylights out of your keyboards all night while I'm gone now xxx0 -
It's cold and callous. It may be justified, but it is still cold and callous.
The brother is calling you because he is in desperate need, basically you could well be the only person he can call in spite of not speaking for 20 years.
Erm...the brother is not calling me.
I don't have a brother. :rotfl:
I've already stated that I don't care if gillet thinks I'm cold and callous.
The same goes for you.
And anyone else.
In the same situation as the OP, I wouldn't need to justify myself to anyone.
And certainly not to some random stranger on t'internet.0
