Lovely to see you, @elaine241. Pleased you're holding things together after your horrible year. I can remember some of the things you told us about, so it's good to see you again.2025 Fashion on the ration

@elaine241 I collect to Olio from Tssesco. Mine is a morning collection so I only pick up best before items, no Use By. The amount of good which would go to waste is.staggering.
One of the other volunteers collected 147 x 2.5kg bags of potatoes the other day. I picked up 20 from her and shared with people in my village. I collected 25 packs of little gem lettuce on Tuesday. And the amount of bread is ridiculous!
Sounds like a great scheme and the fact that OOD use by items don't go to landfill is great.10 -
All the best to you lot for 2022.

Happy New Year to one and all! Here's hoping that we can all begin to move forwards with our lives again - whilst keeping a watchful eye out & our powder dry, as per usual, but perhaps with a bit less urgency.Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)11

And remember, noro is not susceptible to antibac. If you share any public spaces, be thoughtful.
Made New Year memorable is a whole new way. Himself now recovering from all the wrenched muscles.9 -
Well I have decided I will start from here rather than try and read all the posts that I have missed.
I collected a food donation form the local Co-op last night, the usual bread, pasties, veg, fruit etc plus some fresh meat ( which goes into someone's freezer). New Years eve , eve we had the Aldi collection resulting in more potatoes, carrots and parsnips than anyone could eat! I collected from Bookers and added 6 huge nets of sprouts to the equation. Currently I have a net of sprouts, box of parsnips and huge sack of carrots in my car!
As it looks like we are all in for a v tight squeeze financially with inflation, fuel price hikes and National insurance increases I am hoping to make the most of this free resource, plus grow a lot more fruit and veg.
I invested in a pressure canner (Presto 23 quart) so that I can preserve a lot of fruit and veg without taking up too much space in my freezers. The large chest freezer on the farm yard died (rodent chewed flex :-( ) and I lost a lot of my carefully harvested produce. Hopefully by canning a lot I will avoid this happening again as not all my preserves will be in the freezer.
If anyone lives near me the store is open to anyone who wishes to stop the food going to landfill. The project is called Help for all Gwent, based in Penperlleni village hall, and we get people travelling quite a way to collect bags for themselves , relatives and friends

Thanks for the info about the excess food Elaine, I don't live that far from you and I will pass the word around to anyone in need. I'm sure they will be very grateful for any help at this difficult time.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10

Happy New Year! May we all have a healthy one!
My stocks have come in handy, it's been freaking freezing here. It warmed up to -9 today and little dog was happy to get a walk. When you only weigh 10 pounds you get cold fast.
The husband finally realizes that my seemingly random purchases for the pantry make sense when it hits -30 and nobody wants to go to the shops. Canned and frozen fish have been a welcome change from leftovers.
Keep warm and keep safe.11 -
