I remember the 1970's power cuts. I worked in an office opposite the local hospital so our power was never cut. Unfortunately, no going home early for us.

I'm baby sitting at our daughters tonight, they're all wifi timed lights and clever high techy sensors...but I had to message her to ask her to turn the bathroom light on as the sensor doesn't kick in until 7pm but it was too dark by 6.30pm to see to do little ones teeth brushing! I shall be having words about alternatives they need to think about.16

My DD's last house had zones for automatic lighting, on my very first visit there I couldn't find a light switch anywhere. 'It's ok Grandma,' the little one said, 'you just walk wherever you want to go and the lights come on.' True enough, but you still had to take those first few faltering steps into the gloom...I'm dogsitting at their new place for a few days at halfterm. It's a bigger better version of their last place. DD tells me not to worry because 'everything is automatic.' Which is precisely what I am worried about!“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”16

Our lights are controlled by ALEXA, and us shouting at her! which half the time she doesn't seem to understand! Well at least she doesn't understand me, so my kids patiently take me through the correct way to address her, and thank her afterwards, to ensure we have light!12

I don't get it. Flipping a light switch takes a second. Getting these stupid virtual assistants to do anything takes longer.20

That sounds like a nightmare, I wouldn't be into that at all.
