Zero Hedge used to be good but it’s toxic these days. Occasional interesting bitsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!9

MingVase said:Thrifty I'm not sure , sorry xx but I do know they can get into glass screwtop jars, they crawl into the grooves in the lid. I read that anyway. Is there not some kind of herb or leaves that repels them though, am sure there is. Maybe bay leaf?CW007 I read that too and more besides, but didn't want everybody in here jumping on my head for scaremongering. The news here is dire, I use Al Jazeera, RTE, and Russia Today as well as CNN and Reuters..
I would like to read the other news websites the BBC I find quite irritating and repetitive.

jk0 said:Should I get out my electric car?I have one stashed away in the garage for driving into London. It only has a 60 mile range and can't carry much luggage, so is fine for pottering around locally, but a bit useless for anything more.I have about ten gallons of diesel left, which should get me any longer distances. However, I wonder if I shouldn't save that, in case of emergency. What would you guys do?
Ah, well I did. I took the diesel up the road, and there's still no fuel at my BP, so that is now in the garage, and the EV is set to charge tonight.

Re flour mites, I have seen it recommended that new, unopened packs of dry goods be put in a plastic bag and frozen for 24 hours to kill live eggs etc, as they can come into the house that way. So if I had an infestation (I don't but have done in the past) I would bin opened, infested goods, and freeze any unopened packs that I already have in the larder, or that I bring into the house.

If you want bizarre news try living in North America. CBC hates everything. The US stations are bizarre and even their "international" content is beyond tragic.
Most of our European news is from RT or the odd BBC broadcast that I never remember to watch.
The husband is miffed because European imports are getting harder to find. He can't find Kuhne products anywhere, he's missing his salad dressings, lol. What he can find is more expensive that he likes.12 -
Thrifty yes start again, dont use cardboard maybe? Tupperware type of things might be better. And don't store a lot.Wondercollie I agree re American news, Fox News is scary
I think the world is changing fast just now, lurching into a new age and we just have do what we can to protect ourselves and families from the bumps.
jk0 I havent seen any queues at all up here in the Scottish borders, all is as usual thank god.14 -
We've got Freeview so its BBC, Sky news, Al Jazeera or Russia Today (there is the new GB channel but even Himself is leery of it) I'll see if we can get RTE!
Mind it probably won't help me Prep - when got in yesterday, he grouched to youngest "Your mother is worrying about Christmas Already.." (Someone needs to. The squawks of horror & then of awe at "No Stuffing!" then "Mum Made It!" two years ago remain memorable. Our traditional lump of pork will not be so easy to conjure, so scheming time!)
From the lack of roadblocking queues, I think the valley has settled down but miword what a Fuss.11 -

I stopped watching the news umpteen times a day ages ago when I realized it wasn't doing me any good. DH has it on more than I would like, but the other morning on GB news, Simon McCoy and Kirsty Gallagher were visibly moved when telling us about Sarah Everard. He asked us to take a minute of silence for Sarah and her family while they showed a picture of her. I thought that was a lovely thing to do and I don't think I've ever seen it done on a news programme before.2025 Fashion on the ration
