Does anyone do pickled eggs? I used to years back but I've forgotten my 'special recipe'. A neighbour acquired some rescue hens from one of these pretend free range operations. Result happy hens which roam all over the place and genuine free range eggs for me!11

Can someone remind me in January (sales) to look at the indoor Christmas lights (battery) as an extra lighting option if we have a power cut.12

MingVase said:... Preppers, things are getting really "interesting". Warnings from reputable sources of soaring inflation and shortages to come this winter. I'm filling the freezers this weekend and stocking up on vitamins and supplements.Indeed - and this morning a concept that's new to me, courtesy of my Lady Wife doing her daily check of the German news websites for all the stuff that the BBC think we don't need to know about - "import inflation". That's when the UK inflation rate goes up because of price rises on goods we import from countries whose inflation rate is higher than ours.A couple of German sources also having a good chuckle about this new electric cable from Norway and how it's yet another example of the UK ostensibly cleaning up its act by exporting its production of anything that makes lots of CO2 so that when Doris starts waffling on at this climate conference at the end of the month he can show how he's saving the planet. But whatever, fill your freezers by all means folks but don't forget about stocking up on stuff you can safely store at ambient temperatures. It only takes one bloke and a mini-digger to stuff your electric supply ...

It's amazing how much is being reported outside the UK which we don't get to see here. Interesting article here, if you open on a mobile you have the option to read in English:
https://www.volkskrant.nl/cs-b91f92f3
France is threatening sanctioning energy to the UK over fishing boat rights and the EU is considering other sanctions if the UK continues to try and extend deadlines, including import duties and restricting the freedom of British financial service providers to operate in Europe.15 -
Have the Beeb and the papers had anything to say about this obsession that the gubment has with trying to stop Britain farming? As I understand it what used to be called the set-aside scheme is now called something else and it's making it even more tempting for arable farmers to stop producing food and instead turn their fields over to pasture. Gawd only knows what the theory is there, but for sure it'll bite us in the bum one day. It's just as daft as banning a seed-dressing that stopped cabbage stem flea beetle decimating rape crops, which led to UK farmers stopping growing it, which of course has led to us importing it at a higher price from countries which haven't banned it, which ... etc ... etc ...And what has this got to do with prepping, you may ask? Well, not a lot I guess if you're not concerned about rising prices, shortages, and even more uncertainty coming our way real soon nowWe're all doomed11

Thrifty I'm not sure , sorry xx but I do know they can get into glass screwtop jars, they crawl into the grooves in the lid. I read that anyway. Is there not some kind of herb or leaves that repels them though, am sure there is. Maybe bay leaf?CW007 I read that too and more besides, but didn't want everybody in here jumping on my head for scaremongering. The news here is dire, I use Al Jazeera, RTE, and Russia Today as well as CNN and Reuters..13

Should I get out my electric car?I have one stashed away in the garage for driving into London. It only has a 60 mile range and can't carry much luggage, so is fine for pottering around locally, but a bit useless for anything more.I have about ten gallons of diesel left, which should get me any longer distances. However, I wonder if I shouldn't save that, in case of emergency. What would you guys do?8

Russia Today gives you a side view of things that you don't get anywhere else.10
