Glad more of you have had your jabs. My sister and husband got theirs on the spur of the moment last night, as a local GP surgery had slots unfilled and didn't want to waste them. They were asked, and jumped at the chance. One of my brothers has now booked his as he is classed as CV now.Looking forward to a time when we can get ours. So sorry to hear that volunteers and staff are getting abuse! That's disgusting!February wins: Theatre tickets13

Hello all
Oldest son went back to school Monday amidst a lot of grumbling!! Younger son in year 10 goes tomorrow but its unclear if its just for a day or actually back in until next Thursday. Then two weeks off for Easter. I for one can not wait until I have a quiet house with all three males out the blooming door!! Ok I am not one of these yummy mummies they trot out on the media juggling jobs, kids, immaculate houses etc. I for one can not wait for some peace and quiet!
Yesterday , rushing out the door with my son taking him to school I forgot my purse which for some strange reason was not in my handbag. Monday is my big weekly shop day, resulting in meltdown in Lidl when I realised I had not got my cards. Thank god I always carry cash, about £100. It is one of my preps in the instance all cards stop working and I need to get home. I thankfully had enough for my shop and the shop of my friend who is still shielding.
I watched Greenland a while back, I think I must be quite a hard person when it comes to this sort of film as I didn't get upset. The Road was quite disturbing but again I was fine. I think farming life, where if you have livestock, you also have deadstock, prepares you for harsh outcomes and situation where there is nothing you can do except put it out of its misery etc
My boys are what I used to describe as feral in the summer. Nowadays they drive the tractors and help make hay etc but when younger they would disappear with a tent, camping supplies and a gun! Yes they would kill it ,cook it and eat it! Squirrel on a stick anyone?

I watched the Road and for months afterwards all I thought of when I drove to work was imagine if...It wasn't distrubing in the sense of people eating each other, that's kind fo a given with films like that, it was disturbing to me because it was so relentlessly depressing. I told everyone I knew don't watch it.

Haven't seen The Road. Not sure I want to! Haha. I am absolutely fine with things like The Walking Dead. Not really squeamish, as such, but can no longer handle films/TV shows where kids get hurt/separated from parents in a traumatic way. It would always sadden me before, but now I am a parent, I just blub! lolElaine, I am with you on the enjoying peace and quiet. I booked last Monday off so I could enjoy a day to myself without a shadow following me everywhere, wanting to help with everything and just generally not giving me one iota of space. lol. It was bliss. I managed to make a couple of super hero capes and masks for neighbours kids.February wins: Theatre tickets15

Thankfully, with the weather improving and restrictions being lifted, we’ll start feeling a bit less like we’re under house arrest 😃
The birds are in fine voice already this morning and the cats have played a few rounds of front door/back door. Why go around the house when you can get mum to open the doors and let you walk through it? 😂😂 No wonder my knees are shot!
I have the opportunity to do some essential food shopping in Southampton City Centre after my scan today. I only need milk, washing up liquid and minimal fresh food. I’d budgeted for taxis (£26 each way) but feel well enough for the bus. The pay off is that it takes me several days to get over an excursion like this so I need ‘easy’ food for the rest of the week. I’m aching just from doing some light housework yesterday.A friend of mine bought me a vacuum sealer as a gift - she’s been raving about it for weeks because she can easily seal all her left overs. She swears it will change my life 😂😂 i’m not one for gadgets but I will give it a go.13 -
Noticed a bill passed potentially outlawing protests...setting the politics aside....makes your fearful what's down the line.... as preppers we are little more prepared to varying degrees...worrying nonetheless16

@3secondmemory I am sure your new gadget will be endlessly useful, as mine are. You can reuse the bags if you wash them carefully (except if you have had raw fish or meat in them) and I work on the principle that I get at least three uses out of each. It's dead easy to reheat dishes using the 'sous vide' method and means cooked dishes don't fall apart when heated.I vac seal flour, most of my dehydrated produce and any long-term storage of cooked food. I wish you joy with your new toy!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Kicking myself that I forgot to get any washing up liquid 😂😂 I had 6 delivered only last June with an Amazon order - I can’t believe I’ve used them all already 😂😂
As well as not paying for taxis today, I didn’t splurge in M&S either - just some carrot batons, a nice salad and a £4 meal deal. I was to tired and aching so much by that stage - I woke up in pain just from doing some ultra lite housework yesterday - now it feels like I’ve pulled all the muscles in my stomach from lying on the scanner bed. Ridiculous that keeping absolutely still for half an hour can actually cause pain or that cutting up a bit of carrot and opening a tin of sweetcorn to liven up a salad is beyond anyone who was up and about just hours earlier. I hope I got this across at that work capability interview. This is the reality for Long Covid sufferers too - normal activity comes at a high price 😞
I treated myself to some climbing strawberry plants to make use of the sunny side wall. I’m growing upwards this year and you can never have too many strawberries 🍓 I noticed a great big fat bumblebee yesterday – they will be looking for food so I might go online and see what my local garden centre has got to start a few hanging baskets at the weekend.
@LivingProof - you’ve inspired me to try this gadget but maybe not today 🙂
ETA - salad and raw carrot batons for tea last night - not good enough at all. I’m using this early start to do loaded potatoes and cherry tomatoes in the slow cooker to go with the pork chop I meant to have. I’ll use the rest of the spuds to do mash and try out the vacuum sealer.I need to remind myself of exactly what is in my freezer 😀 I ordered three A4 lined, wipe off magnetic sheets to go on my fridge and freezer. I’m hoping that I will be able to list the contents in each and then write reminders and a shopping list on the third. Also ordered coloured pens and filing cabinet inserts for the filing cabinet that I bought from FB market place.15 -
Prepping-wise, there's a ongoing situation with an Icelandic volcano that hasn't erupted for a very long time, quite close to the capital Reykjavik. It may or may not end in an eruption, although the experts very reassuringly believe that it's highly unlikely to endanger anyone at any point if it does, but the south coast road may be impacted. As the intrusion is entirely under land so far, and there's no permanent ice on top of that land, it probably won't be ashy or explosive, even if there were much air traffic to worry about. So it's a something-and-nothing from our point of view; worth maybe keeping an eye or ear on, in my case just because I find it fascinating to see new land being born, but probably not a TEOTWAWKI situation even for those far closer than any of us.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)13
