Btw, has anyone received a Cold Weather Payment yet? It’s an extra £25 for when the temperature’s been freezing for seven days, and should be added automatically to means tested benefits like Jobseekers, ESA, Pension Credit and UC equivalents.
I checked my bank balance recently and thought oh no I’ve been overpaid and how long has this been going on, but looks like it’s legit, and there’s a postcode checker if you’re not sure. https://coldweatherpayments.dwp.gov.uk/
Just wish energy supplier would hurry up with the warm home discount, I’m sure they’ve been *snowed under* this year, but end of March seems like an awful long time to wait!8 -
We've just had a flood alert. I've finally used up the sand from all the sandbags I used in 2014 as the sandbags have long since rotted away. Luckily I've just had a delivery of compost! I also have some chemical sandbags, although they may well be past their use-by date. Luckily the house is fairly high up - I just need to prepare for the road being flooded and being unable to get out!12

Water back on but problem not fixed so don't know if it will stay on. The other end of town had it back for about 10 minutes then it vanished again. We ran the taps until it ran clear then I was able to finish the washing. There was a load of towels in the machine when the water went off this morning so I had to stop the machine. The leak was so bad it has flooded some buildings at the bottom of the hill.11

It's warmed up to -21C. The dogs are still unhappy with us. Good thing is its still too cold to snow.
I've been able to defrost the freezer, just put the contents outside in a covered basket and went to work.
Cold weather payments? They dont exist here. I'm dreading this month's gas bill.14 -
Temps gone up to 10 degrees here, big relief, my slightly swollen fingers have gone back to normal and the dry skin on my hands is disappearing. We were -3 all day and night Saturday, so I cooked a huge roast and kept warm in the kitchen. I made chicken broth today with the carcass and had two huge bowls, you can feel the benefit immediately, it really does seem to contain superpowers! A little bit left for a lunchtime boost tomorrow.

Ooh yes love the idea of frost and snow, but reality quickly wears thin and is bad news for older people and those with chronic health problems, not to mention the homeless as we were discussing. Love a good stock pot too, as well as being warming and yummy the broth contains lots of collagen and amino acids, which might explain its restorative properties

seriously, sorry to hear you are suffering.I’m still working on trying to get a routine but I was exceptionally tired last week - maybe it was my Covid jab.We are forecast rain for the rest of the week but it looks glorious after that. It’s definitely time to start off some seeds and plantings. I was looking back at my beautiful hanging baskets from two years ago. Simple things.Ordinarily I would be seeing the psychologist today but she’s having a well earned holiday. I have got some homework to do though. I could quite fancy wandering down to our little garden centre later although I don’t want to break my run of nine no spend days 😃
Stay well everyone, don’t let the jab make you complacent; be patient while we wait and see how this pans out 😃14 -
Gentle {{{hugs}}} Daz, I hope that feels better very quickly.
Although I'm keeping very busy making stuff with my enormous stash of fabric & learning new skills, and am lucky enough to be living with 3 other (mostly lovely!) people in a reasonable amount of space & with access to the great outdoors, I'm feeling the strain a little today. DS2 rang up last night, wondering why we hadn't had our jabs yet; they're desperate to show us scan pictures & The Bump, etc. and it's just not the same over the phone. But we're not eligible yet! (In the next batch, I believe, at 62, but the girls, in their 20s, not for ages yet.) A very minor thing, really, just wanting to share the excitement, but also I think to feel the parental support; another little strand of the social fabric that's missing for now. Plus it was my mother's 95th birthday, and none of us able to go & give her a hug... Multiply that by thousands, if not millions, and many of them far bigger sadnesses; even those of us who are lucky are feeling the strain now. Teeth are firmly gritted, but it's really gone on long enough...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)16
