I used to give £100 per month to Shelter for years, having been inspired by a moving storyline in Eastenders. I stopped some years ago, as I found out they were campaigning against the interests of private landlords. (Where did they think the £100 was coming from?)

Our bus service is now running all night with nearly every bus including a stop at a shelter. Many homeless women prefer to ride the bus all night for safety factors.
Over here, people load MacDonalds or Tim Horton's gift cards with $5-10 and give them to homeless people. Enough for a hot drink and a bit of something to eat. If the person wants to trade the card for drink or drugs it's their choice but I see a lot of homeless people with Timmies coffee cups.23 -
Having a doctor whom you can't understand is no good at all. You might not know who the practice manager is, but the surgery should have one - and you need to complain to him or her. A pound to a penny says you won't be the only patient to have done so.jk0 said:... My problem was understanding the lady doctor. She speaks in a heavily accented Spanish accent ...

In a sane world, absolutely. However, nowadays I know better than to make complaints like that. They'd put me down as a racist, and I'd find myself only offered appointments months away.

Gosh that’s tricky jk0, as others have said your health depends on having a GP you can communicate with.Perhaps you could fudge it a bit, and stress you don’t have any issue or complaint, simply that you’d like to try another doctor at the surgery, feel you’d benefit from a fresh perspective.Hopefully that way you’ll get the care you need, without rocking the boat or upsetting anyone.13

You've rolled over and given in to the madness. If you're branded as a racist for making a legitimate complaint about a matter which could have a serious impact upon your health and the health of other patients, the fault lies with the lunatics doing the branding, in which case the issue wants escalatingjk0 said:... Or frame it in terms of your having problems hearing her with the mask etc, which is after all the case. If you put it in terms of your inability to hear rather than hers to be heard, it would be difficult to take offence. You can't be the only person who finds it hard to follow some conversations with the mask issue. I certainly do.DryTheRain said:Gosh that’s tricky jk0, as others have said your health depends on having a GP you can communicate with.Perhaps you could fudge it a bit, and stress you don’t have any issue or complaint, simply that you’d like to try another doctor at the surgery, feel you’d benefit from a fresh perspective.Hopefully that way you’ll get the care you need, without rocking the boat or upsetting anyone.

A few years ago now, and as a consequence of both chemotherapy and a hysterectomy, my dear wife was afflicted by atrophic vaginitis which made her life a misery. Her hospital consultant was a lovely bloke, but when she was referred back to him, she saw instead his deputy. Who was Greek. Not only was he both arrogant and totally lacking in empathy, but his English was truly dire, which left my poor wife trying to talk about a sensitive issue with a man who seemed not to understand much of what she said.We got nowhere with him, so upon our return home I emailed a complaint about him to the consultant, who replied to the effect that he'd look into the matter. At her next hospital appointment, my wife learned that he'd been promoted sideways as a direct result of complaints about his communication skills from both patients and staff. We're all doomed15

I don't understand why you'd need to make a complaint, just ask to see someone else when you book an appointment because you legitimately can't understand her with a mask on.

Burst water pipe in town today so no water for most of us and it's flooded the road . So glad I've followed advice on this thread and had bottled water in my store.14
