I have library books! I am ridiculously pleased with something so simple. They'd told me to park right outside as everything was appointment-only, and their lobby was the collect and drop-off zone. Someone came out to serve me, and I had 10 paperbacks in a nice new heavy-duty paper carrier bag with my name on. I thanked him and said these were my first library books since March and that it meant a lot. It's an interesting selection and I'll enjoy them but I did have to laugh when I saw they'd put that Roman book Pirata in there!!DigForVictory, my DD learned all her letters as a very teeny tot because we always used to watch Blockbusters and she'd be sitting in her highchair shouting letters, just repetition we thought, then she started calling them out elsewhere like driving past KwikSave. All capitals of course, so we had to introduce lower-case pretty fast, but she was reading just before her 3rd birthday.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”16

It's always a worry when your child is late learning to read but often it's not justified. There's a long family history of late readers but then they just zoom ahead. DD1 didn't really learn to read on her own until she was pushing 7. ( This could have been partly because she had so many doting adults willing to read to her, combined with 100% laziness when it came to doing homework) She ended up at Oxford reading classics
I comforted myself with the reflection that George Eliot was also a very late readerIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!15 -
My DS was late reading - he was quick with anything physical and slow with anything intellectual. Then one day we were walking along the road and he suddenly said "why does that say exit?'. Took off in leaps and bounds then. HOwever, he has always been a more visual learner.

euronorris said:Ditto. Though my favourite genre is epic fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings.Though there is a distinct lack of new viewing material in the sci fi arena at the moment. Same for most genres to be fair. A lot of filming ground to a halt last year.

Re reading: most of mine were pretty quick, but DD1 was spotted as dyslexic in Primary school and had some remedial teaching at lunchtimes when she was 6/7/8. Now she's applying for librarian jobs, writes a well-respected book review blog & gets sent books for free, and has been published in print. So despair not! Nearly all of them get there in the end.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)14

My old gf's 4 year old made us laugh some years ago. She was on my computer filling in a job application for Greggs. Gabriel saw the name, and said: 'Oh Mummy, it's sausage rolls.'

We've got heavy snow and strong winds forecast from tonight until Thurs. Think I need an emergency last minute stash of sweeties..

Our weather warnings have been stood down thank goodness. But it's still so cold.I've ordered some seeds which will arrive this week, tumbler tomatoes and lettuce, and I'll start those off indoors along with some sweet peas.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”16
