Well I am very impressed with the click and collect scheme - I ordered a pot luck selection of several genres last night online, got a phone call this morning to tell me how to collect and now have an appointment on Friday to get them - they are shut tomorrow but coming to my local branch (1 mile away) so that's very accessible. I asked for 10, hoping something in there might suit, getting a bit excited now!“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”11

Serendipitious said:When I worked in a charity shop some of the books received were in an appalling condition and just couldn't go on display. The funniest one I saw was held together with a rubber band with a note on the front in spidery writing saying 'Pages 87-92 missing but makes no difference to the story.'14

When I was in Junior school the Library (in a big wooden hut) was on the way home from school. I loved Norse and greek mythology - just old fairytales to me then. Later I had a Saturday job at a holiday camp and on the way home used to pass a newsagents that had a second hand book stand outside and I bought a lovely thick copy of Tales of the Arabian Nights - thinking it was in a similar vein, not knowing it was from the original - boy did that add to my education!! Still buy second hand books thoughSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle15

I try to put out books that will sell. History, art and cookery are the most popular. There's not much demand for out of date law, computer or accountancy books . Crime novels are probably our most popular fiction.14

We had a pick up once every week in the charity shop for sacks of books too damaged or just not likely to sell, for pulping and also a pick up once a week for sacks of clothing and household donations just too badly worn or damaged as rags. We got a fair bit of income from it too.8

" cornishchick ...GP has signed me off work till the 18th of Feb, continuing fatigue and muscle pain. I have only been working there for 3 months, so not sure about SSP. "
so annoyed and worried right now but glad I prep in the way of knowing about accountability and paper trails!, continued the email thread to my manager regarding my continuing health issues ( the first two were not even acknowledged! ) he replied yesterday saying he had heard I had left the post and is that not true? !!! really you listen to rumors and gossip?
I replied that not once Have I mentioned leaving or not coming back ever to him and surely his job as the manager would be to check information like that????????
really glad I rejoined Unison at the beginning of the year!!!!!!!!
( forgive all the !! I don't have a diseased mind lol )today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

( forgive all the !! I don't have a diseased mind lol )That's the last thing you need when you're not well. You'd think a manager would be much more supportive given the pandemic and all its implications for work, and all the guidance that's been issued, but yours sounds like he's not even up to the job to begin with. Are there any benefits you can access? I became eligible for UC last Spring/Summer and it was a huge relief - not so much for the money although every little helps, but for the fact that if I became unwell at least something was in place to help pay the bills. (I was on ZHC though, so the prospect of being unable to work was scary.)Look after yourself. x“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”9 -

My offspring tell me the storage room (ahem) is full of boxes of books that have got wet. (I boxed them in plastic crates over 15 years ago & have never gone back to check.) If the books are mostly flat & the pages flip correctly, charity shops ho. If not, what do you recommend, as I personally cannot burn books.14
