Polly, I presume you went into the Guildford Arms (very swish!) and the Oxford Bar (very small!)...the ex-h was a huge Rebus fan. I'm another social history fan - my current chap gave me a copy of "When the lights went out" about life in the 1970s, but I've not got properly stuck into it yet. I think it's because I can remember it, a bit like my mum not wanting to read any books about WW2 as she lived through it.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Mar have you read any Falco? I got hooked on this series in November, and I'm now on the 12th, still plenty to go. It's like a detective series that takes you all over the Roman Empire, with a love story and family soap opera included. I'm glad I have been following them in order, so I haven't missed any details.15

I know all the pubs
but am not fond of Rebus, I find Rankin a wee bit pretentious at times. I've done the WW2 bit as well Polly, it's very fascinating. And I agree - if you know your history then you're prepared for anything new that life can throw at you. Even the current virus thing is not new, we've been here before, quite a while back, with Diptheria and Cholera. Now I have an idea of how they felt. But life went on after and it will again.

Well Polly it seems DT can be ours for £40 on the Bay or Amazoon. In a kilt though. I am dubious about hairy knees...Or the Dr Who version also available.Romans - I read Pirata, Simon Scarrow. Cruel times. And there was a trilogy by someone whose name I forget, about the Legions going to war. How they ever fought anyone I do not know, considering they had to march miles and miles for weeks on end to get there first, in all sorts of horrible conditions, but the set up was interesting, especially the camp followers including families, who accompanied them.Hope we are all prepped with something nice for Monday - it's Blue Monday, the most likely day of the year for feeling down, apparently. I have chocolate and a contemporary thriller. The prepping budget doesn't run to David Tennant, sadly...“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”14

There but for fortune go you and I.15 -
Just unlurking to say my younger daughter's boyfriend bought her a lifesize cardboard figure of David Tennant in Dr Who form for her Birthday a few years ago. A couple of days later our oldest DD came home for a visit. After a long journey to get to us she was desperate to use the loo, so headed straight upstairs. While she was in there, DS (an avid practical joker) stood David Tennant right outside so that she walked straight into him when she opened the door ..... the screams were something to hear!
People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

If he showed up for my jab, I'd tell him a) to go away and give me some privacy and b) not to go too far as I needed a stern word with him afterwards...What a brilliant idea. My eldest dd worked for deades for an international bookseller. When they had authors in a shop they had big cardboard cut outs. Depending on who they were a number of those found their way to her younger siblings including the much missed "man in the hat" who often had Neil Gaimen in tow. They used to annoy her dismissing her Bettys afternoon teas in favour of a burger and a pint. We used to laugh at her outrage which annnoyed her even more.As far as I know DT has never written a book ,I've never seen a life size cutout of him so time to search the web.If know who came within a mile of me I wouldn't engage at all. Just make sure he was well away from me and shout for the bobbies if he wasn't..I'd never really heard of Ian Rankin but during a holiday here she left a book on the shelf in the hall. She said it's a freebie from the publisher but I can't stand the man so I'll leave it here. It hung around for a while and then youngest picked it up. Thus began our love of Rebus , many Rebus books later dd began what's probably the next to last a week ago. I kept forgetting it came out last Autumn she was on the last page when she messaged last night to thank me for remembering to get it. My turn next.pollyx14

Shropshirelass I forgot about Falco! ty.
Serendipitous I did a couple about the army and the Legions but can't get right into that.
LW I'm looking at Saylor on amazon now, not heard of him TY!
Now we've moved we are right beside Dere St and not far from Trimontium. so in summer I'll take a wander round there. I was thinking that books are far removed from Prepping - but really they're not. Books are essential to keep us saneand these lockdown days can be long...
