CRANKY40 said:I went to our local @sda this morning. This will be my last shopping trip as I go right off supermarkets close to Christmas. I'm on Merseyside. There was plenty of most things including salad stuff and a huge pile of the 20p veg - parsnips, sprouts.....I was there at 8:30am and it was ok. There were a few people with overflowing trolleys but I use self scan and was straight through, paid and out in minutes.Cranky did you see the pictures on the Liverpool Echo site of the shoppers who decided to drive or travel by train from London to escape the new tier and spend Christmas and New year up North in tier2, Church St was crammed very few masks and social distancing. I know we're a fair distance away in different areas but we've had a nightmare here over the months with people from as far away as Bolton etc turning up in droves. No doubt you've seen the same on your coastline. Lemmings only work if they jump off the cliff alone in this situation rather than drag the rest of us with them. I can see us going up a tier again and the cases rising. So much for living in a quiet seaside area.Hope you and the HT are well.pollyx.It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

My mind seems to have blocked out the convoys of taxies coming here from Co Durham and other parts during lockdown too, If only people would use their brains things would be a lot less stressful , the workload on the NHS etc would begin to reduce and we'd have a chance of getting through the days ahead.I've just remembered something I used to read to my children and pupils. " I do not like the human race. I do not like it's silly face etc" I think this sums up my feelings re those who do exactly what they want. I can see their silly faces because they rarely wear a mask and start arguments with shop staff on the subject holding up other customers and wasting staff time.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I just keep thinking how innocent we all were this time last year... Never could I have imagined all this!Well I have started my water preps in my new home. I always liked to have a gallon or so in containers, even in the tiny flat I had before, as they used to carry out routine maintenance on the water system quite regularly and sometimes it could be off for an hour or two. But the longest it was off was during a power cut, a rare event in itself. When the power came back on, the water did not, as the sudden cut-out had affected the pump function and although they called someone out immediately, it was still a while before the taps were running again, so I was glad of my reserve. I used the 4-pint milk containers and swapped them out regularly as I don't think they're really suitable for long term storage. Here, I could have something bigger as there's more space but I'm not sure what to get yet.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”18

The child one person removed from him in his English class had covid and not a single other person in the class caught it. He goes to school on the estate where we live and I look after an autistic adult who is regularly covid tested and who comes to our house. We don't even go to our local shopping centre (it's a dump anyway).
I take my looked after person for a walk but local knowlege means that I use a little known coastal path (you really need to have lived close by to know that it's there) rather than the ever popular and usually crowded prom in New Brighton. I have plenty of what I think of as long term prepping stuff in - toiletries, baking ingredients, food tins and the freezer is full so we should be OK to stay home.17 -
Good to hear all is well with you both Cranky. The HT is very wise. Such a good view to have on the situation. Dd and myself are thinking along the same lines. There will be a massive fallout mental and physical health wise when we get to some sort of normal but dd is coping well. It has highlighted that for many choosing our battles and being mindful of both physical and mental health is our normal year in and year out. In a way we've been in training for years but never realised it.I'll be home now until meds collection so will lounge about in PJs if I want and the time will pass. It's years since I've been on the New Brighton ferry. Last time we were in Liverpool was when dd had consultants at the Royal and Broadgreen hospitals.Superdoc rescued her from an awful consultant and she's been under our local trust for the last few years mostly just a short trip to the nearer one but sometimes the other further away one. It's a lot less stressful for us both. Not long now and it will all be over for another year. No doubt we'll see some New Year problems but we'll be hunkered down. It's wet ,very cloudy and dreary here so no looking at the stars. However they're there even if we can't see them. We're heading slowly back to light with the solstice so warm wishes to you and those in your lives. And enjoy your Christmas.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

My DGS had covid and we are pretty sure it was a true result from the test as several other children in his out of school club had it. The family isolated for 2 weeks. A few weeks later SIL was offered an antibody test through work. No antibodies .16

Ooh, New Brighton ... Harrison Drive .... I returned for a visit last year, and saw the work that's been done on both sides of the river creating a coastal path. Wonderful. Saw an ocean-going tug too, really close up. The work that's been done at New Brighton is amazing - all round the Wirral coast too. It was a lovely (November) day, which helped, but honestly the whole place looked like an advert for southern Spain! I always thought of Barcelona as being Liverpool with sun2023: the year I get to buy a car19

Pilfering has begun on our mid village allotments, polytunnels broken into and bags of compost and tools taken, sheds forced and veg taken from the plots. 'Tis the season to be vigilant!20

We were thoroughly done over a few weeks ago, lots of damage and basic vandalism, but basically after strimmers and hedge trimmers. Not interested in basic tools. Although they took a load of onions? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing19
