They took lots of sprouts from several plots, guess to sell on?17

It's not funny any more when old jokes about the allotment committee taking it in turns to sit up at night alongside the plots starts to seem prescient.
On a completely different note, I believe the courier may have knocked on the door & left us despite having our phone number. Which leaves me with several boxes of love & affection to arrive over the break sat in my hall. Unlike the loads in Kent & Dover it won't "go off", but its making a stressful time worse.16 -
Well this morning I ventured in to the nearest Lidl. I was quite early but the carpark was a lot fuller than normal. I drove passed Aldi they were queuing to get into the carpark, Sainsburys looked to be very busy and as for Asda not even looking!! I was shopping again for my friend and she wanted the veg offers. I did pick them up as they were British produce and good value. What I did notice was that one side of their freezers were totally empty, maybe a fault, but all of them? There were only three fresh turkeys in the whole shop and very obvious holes on shelves where things like BB, Spaghetti hoops and tin tomatoes usually are. I spoke to one of the assistants I know quite well she said the weekend and Monday were absolutely rammed with people stripping the shelves. SO it seems a perfect storm of Covid, Lockdown, no Brexit deal, Christmas and shut French borders may have panicked more than a few people. Luckily I have stocked up on all these items over the last few months and have a very health stash of food within my pantry, freezers and cupboards. Thank god for this thread and prepping!!

I think it's inevitable, given how many people are in financial difficulties, that we'll lose some crops particularly if the freight to and from the rest of the world is subject to long delays or doesn't get here at all. I wouldn't mind so much if someone was hungry and had to choose between heating and eating, I'd give willingly if that was the case but tools, compost etc. is only ever going to be sold on and that I do mind.16

boazu, your tomato chutney recipe has gone down a storm with a few of my neighbours 👏 A little too sharp for DH & I, so I was rather pleased that the neighbours preferred it 😂
So thank you 👏

Can i ask a question please. Just had my food order and i may have over ordered on veg! Would it keep well in the boot of my car or is it likely to get too cold there? It would only be for a few up to a week before i could bring it insideMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I'm going for my food shopping at 06:00 tomorrow, as I'm working 3-8pm tomorrow, and most of Christmas Eve (GP surgery)!
I fell off the wagon WRT to all things MSE/OS this year, massive fail, but trying to get back to it now. We do have a reasonable amount of food in, but there are some huge gaps, which I hope to start plugging tomorrow. I don't buy loads at once, but at the level of a couple extra tins of tomatoes or one more jar of coffee etc. In the circs, and as I have a SM voucher to spend, I might add a few extra staples to make my mind feel more comfortable.

In winter and cooler weather I often leave veg and fruit in the car if space in the kitchen is limited. It should keep for a week easily.20
