Today's Guardian has an article about empty shelves partly because of a logjam of containers at Felixstowe, which handles about 40% of container traffic (all container traffic? the EU? Not sure, sorry). They said it included a massive amount of NHS-bound PPE.2023: the year I get to buy a car18

Well my hens are now technically breaking the lockdown as we have a gale blowing here and I can not put a tarp over their run. If I shut them in the shed their is no light as its an old stone building. Hopefully tomorrow I will find a sheet to put over the run so they are more compliant. I am pretty sure the small wild birds will get in as there are lots of little holes around the stone building.thriftwizard said:The whole country (England, certainly, but I believe Wales & Scotland too) is now an Avian Influenza Protection Zone, as of 5pm yesterday. Wish I'd had a bit more warning! My big birds are fine in their weldmesh, tarp-roofed run, but the bantams need to be covered up fast. I've ordered another cover for my half-dead polytunnel; fingers crossed it gets here quickly! I re-roofed the coop earlier on today, but can't actually keep them under cover until the polytunnel's complete again. We've had even less warning than last time... so we're locked down, and now the chickens are locked down too!

My polytunnel cover has arrived but it's blowing a complete hooley out there & bucketing down! So it's not happening today, H5N8 or no H5N8. To be honest even the wild birds aren't venturing out & the bantams have stayed mostly in their coop anyway. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more amenable...Angie - GC Jan 26 £210.01/£400: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)15

I gave up trying for an online slot in April. I have accepted I may get the virus when I go shopping and there is nothing I can do about it. I maybe dead but I won't be hungry
. I don't have to worry about Christmas food shopping as it will be a normal day.

There have been so many changes in the way the supermarkets have organised their slots and they haven't been difficult to get all the time, so it's always worth another try occasionally. Perhaps this isn't the best time of year to start again though!littlemoney said:I gave up trying for an online slot in April. My daughter was ordered to self isolate on Sunday 1 November, then on Monday 2 November she started coughing which meant we had to self isolate as well potentially for two weeks unless she got a negative test (thankfully, she did a few days later). Despite it being two days before the start of lockdown and the mad hordes doing their loo paper ritual, I was able to get a Tesco slot for the next day which I was amazed aboutIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!15

If Iceland deliver in your area, it is usually quite easy to get a delivery slot with them. Their range is a bit limited, but they have the basics.littlemoney said:I gave up trying for an online slot in April. I haven't been able to get a free range chicken online for a couple of weeks so going to try local shops that do delivery.Asda is now charging for priority slots. Got a shock when they were going to charge me £6.50 for my next recurring slot today. I guess it's because it's a weekend at a reasonable time. So I cancelled that recurring slot then got another shock when I saw how booked up the deliveries were.Anyhow managed to get Morrisons for tonight at £2.50 and another with Asda in 10 days time for £2.50.I'm making all deliveries count now - less often but bigger orders. Got email saying the Christmas items on tonight's order not available. Sigh.....Today I got a tel call for a name I didn't recognise. Just told them wrong no. She didn't sound like a scammer so I looked up the number afterwards and it was Test and Trace! I hope no one has given out my number as a fake number.

I had a few subs today, and a few things went out of stock before I finished updating the order yesterday. But nothing too bad. Mostly the Christmas stuff, like a certain selection box. And frozen tempura prawns! I only get them for DD, as she is a lover of fish. Whilst I'm not, I'd like to encourage it in her, so it's a nice extra to have on our boxing day buffet. They tried to substitute with hot and spicy prawns! Haha. She thinks garlic is spicy, so I was like, nah, sorry, keep them!
I managed to give the kitchen a deep clean and a tidy, including the fridge, so we have more space for things, but also more space to create meals and treats in. So that was my bit of prep done.February wins: Theatre tickets13 -
Don't know which supermarket you're using, but T*sco, Sainsbugs and A*da all have turkeys and Christmas cake. All else fails, 1 plain fruit cake, and a pack each of ready-rolled icing and marzipan, and you're sorted.jamanda said:Got my Christmas slot sorted but there doesn't appear to be much in the way of seasonal food available to order for then. No turkey, cake, choc logs etc.
