I'm having so much trouble getting excited for Christmas this year and I should with 3 little people in the house, I am just realllllly missing normality at the moment, we put ourselves into extreme lockdown back at start of March because of pregnancy and my Dad and we are still in it, other than school and DH going to work we haven't been out other than 1 weak moment where I went to a jumble trail, I did buy a huge box of reusable nappies at a bargain price which would have cost hundreds to buy new and the lady is lovely and a wooden music toy thing for the baby for Christmas which is £50 on Am*zon, I paid £4, I am really missing carboot sales I use to buy the majority of the kids clothes, books and toys there it saved us a massive amount of money, unfortunately I doubt carboots will exist after we are out of this, hopefully more people will do jumble trails.

Car boots were running down here back in the summer & early autumn. Well-organised ones are pretty safe as they're open-air & it's fairly easy to distance. We did talk about doing a jumble trail in our street, but sadly it's a very "aspirational" area (as in, everyone's aspiring to be richer & not look as if they have anything that isn't worth megabucks!) so we didn't get enough households wanting to join in to make it worthwhile. Apparently you really need at least 20-25 homes (and social media accounts!) joining in to tempt the buyers & make it worth everyone's while; we couldn't get much above 10. We might try again in spring.Angie - GC Oct 25: £290.57/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)17

The council already had it in for the city carboot the land is worth more for business development than Sunday morning shopping, I think Covid will be used as an excuse not to bring it back.ivyleaf said:What's a Jumble Trail, please?

Second class in DS school now isolating, I joined the parents group for the class and I am getting really really wobbly now and not sure what to do, I'm getting the impression that most of the parents work for the NHS/carehomes/other high risk jobs etc. One said they have been isolating for the last 5 days, we aren't informed if children are isolating because of other family members. Also the local nursery is closed where other siblings go along with the other yrs. My parents are now living with us but in a different area. I feel as though the sensible thing to do is pull DS out for the time being but at the same time I feel like I can't because it isn't fair to him and he loves going, but I also feel that this is now out of control in our area and there is no real plan to stop it. What do I do?

Thriftygifty. Is your concern that DS might get it or bring it into the house? If your parents are isolating within your household they should be ok. Good hygiene when he comes in should mitigate the risk. My dgc are all at school and while its not ideal they are much happier at school. How long would you keep him out, how would he catch up on missed lessons and how would the Education Authority looks at his absence? How would he feel about being taken away from his friends? You have to look at the big picture and decide.16

School does make me nervous. Especially with cases still rising rapidly in our area. We don't get told when a child is self isolating either, but I know that some must be as we have had communication from school about homework referencing 'if your child is at home'. No positive cases in our school yet, but more and more local schools with class bubbles being sent home to isolate. So, there is risk, but.....DD is SO happy at school. She is loving it, and she would struggle emotionally with being at home all the time. I thought that she might not notice the lockdown with school continuing, but she has as she misses her Nana and Grandad, and going swimming. So we are balancing it with that, but then, we don't have grandparents or anyone clinically extremely vulnerable living with us.

thriftwizard said:The whole country (England, certainly, but I believe Wales & Scotland too) is now an Avian Influenza Protection Zone, as of 5pm yesterday. Wish I'd had a bit more warning! My big birds are fine in their weldmesh, tarp-roofed run, but the bantams need to be covered up fast. I've ordered another cover for my half-dead polytunnel; fingers crossed it gets here quickly! I re-roofed the coop earlier on today, but can't actually keep them under cover until the polytunnel's complete again. We've had even less warning than last time... so we're locked down, and now the chickens are locked down too!Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,89415
