snowbird20 said:here in Florida cases are burgeoning, worse than ever before. we have some travel plans but it's looking like we will cancel them. we are going to spend the next 4-6 weeks preparing to hunker down in place either in Maine or Florida. we'll have to consider where we'll be safer but i think it's gonna be Maine. In Maine we are better prepared to ride out a storm.
Husband's hoping that we might get ten days in Jamaica or St. Lucia.
I'm not holding out much hope,.

Here the weather is appalling!! I am just going to cover up and go up the farmyard to feed the hens and dogs. If it dries up later I will go check the sheep and cattle who are hiding under hedges and trees atm.
The media seem to think that we are all going into full lockdown very soon although whether it includes schools will be interesting!
As for Christmas/Yule I have stashed away in the freezer a side of salmon and a turkey. The turkey was very reduced in Sainsburys, free range etc with 75% off, cost me about £8 !!!! The salmon was on special in Lidl, then reduced by 30%, then had another reduction so cost under £10!! I always buy my free range Norfolk black turkeys from a local farm and I will continue to do this if able this year. They cost more than supermarket birds but taste so much better. I don't waste a thing food wise, it goes in the freezer, gets turned into soup/stock/curry etc and even the bones go to the sheepdogs. ( I know they are a hazard but they have always had them) All the veg peelings either go to the hens or the compost. If we end up with a big turkey ( we don't have a choice it just turns up!) I slice the breast meat and freeze it with gravy as this seems to keep it moist.
On Monday I am going to buy the sausage meat for stuffing as I have everything else at hand. I am unashamedly going to cheat with the sprouts and buy frozen!! I fry them with home grown shallots, foraged chestnuts and bacon and they are lovely!! I had a coupon for 20% off cheeses in Lidl so I stocked up on an a selection. Previously I had one for crackers so did the same there. This week I have 20% off peanut butter ( also jams/honey but I make my own), the same for chocolates and 15% off dog food so Ill stock up on my usual.
This Christmas is going to be strange for everyone. I for one will not be risking the shops as I hate shopping anyway!! Mine will be all done online with small home made gifts of truffles to go with the present. What are others plans?

having been out of work and only having a small private pension to survive on, I have been trying to find a job that will use my skills in the care industry but not be 12 hours shifts, ( fibro) finally I start work on Tuesday, so now prepping for going back to work in care, I was entitled to the flu and pneumonia jab so took those, I have checked the car box and replaced some meds and emergency items, in case I get stuck on the way there or back, they supply masks and hand gel.
can you think of anything else I could do to lessen my risks? I live alone so will strip off the minute I get in the door loltoday's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

Nargleblast said:I do Yule as well, Si Clist. For me it's not just a specific day, it's a whole season from early December through into January, and there are lots of things to celebrate. No need to get kids hyped up over one 24 hour period and then have a big sense of anticlimax.Si_Clist said:villagelife said:I spoke to a butcher a couple of weeks ago and he said there is a lack of large turkeys this year.
Growing up we had various celebrations in December. St Nicholas, Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve (for family time and presents), Christmas Day (which was all about the food) And New Years. I still try and maintain that now and usually from the start of November would be looking out for little things for the season for family and friends. This year it's just me and my boyfriend, so will try and still celebrate as much as possible, just much more quietly.

So ... Doris to announce another lockdown.Oh, what a surprise.Right then.Off we go. Great British Public moans about it and gets really grumpy through November, then come December says "Sod it!", ignores rules and regulations and parties like there's no tomorrow because as any fule kno, you have to have the family Christmas and you have to cuddle the grandkids and all the rest of it. Then come January and February they all wonder why the gubment isn't doing anything about all the dead and the dying and the NHS on the verge of collapse, to say nothing of all the poor folk with long Covid who aren't going to get better any time soon.Is it me, or what? We're all doomed24

I can supply details of exactly where you'd get the opposite answer or a mix of answers....9 -
Cornish chick, if you are going to work in a home find out if you will need to change your clothes once you get there. Or do you have a uniform etc?! Also if they supply aprons etc, obviously they are too expensive to buy yourself. Bottled water for when there or even in car or whatever you drink. I take loo roll, you can never be sure what's in place for you until you get there! Pain meds again just in case you have a headache, not everywhere will give you anything. I would also take wet wipes of some type. Good luck! I'm with you on the awful 12 hour days.12

I can supply details of exactly where you'd get the opposite answer or a mix of answers....What's your take on it then? Because I see it playing out exactly as @Si_Clist describes. People aren't magically going to be good little boys and girls when they patently have't been so far.
