I’m so glad I’m in good company (in this thread at least) in not being spooked by BBE dates on tins & jars.
It was getting a bit worrying to see recent new threads on the topic.

Sadly, it’s not just supermarkets - I’ve started getting a fruit & veg box delivered from a local (well, nearest town as no greengrocer in the village, just a Co-op), and although we’re at the start of the English apple season, the last two boxes (which originally held Polish mushrooms!) have contained French or New Zealand apples. The supermarket I use (Waitrose, less often now I order online) did sell a wide range of UK produce. It’s a dilemma: support a local business but not necessarily local producers, or use the supermarket.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

The supply would be very limited, we don't produce anything like the amount people are used to buying from supermarkets. And the price will go up as it always does when things are in short supply. But I've always bought Scots lamb and beef because it's good and mainly grass fed.

Our local co-op gives you extra points if you buy local products and fruit and veg, so makes a bit easer for me.
Last of the apples off my tree, just the pears left now.

I'm another who will cheerfully use up OOD tins & packets; even (some) stuff in the fridge that has passed it's BB4. This very morning I've made scones with yogurt that DD1 (who works in a supermarket) had left by the bin as it was BB4 23/09, but it looked & smelt perfectly OK. Made good scones anyway! Which have been scoffed with clotted cream, BB4 25/09, & the first of a batch of jam made from organically-grown British strawberries, rejected by the supermarket buyers for being too small! For pectin I boiled up & strained a couple of windfall quinces from the garden, but for some reason small strawberries seem to have much more of it than large, so it might have set without the quinces anyway.Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)13
