It's infuriating the differences between surgeries, and them changing qualifying criteria! I asked my mum when hers is due, and she said not jad appt through yet, but been told it will be October. She's 80 next month, asthmatic, has a heart condition, and high blood pressure and scarring on lungs from having TB as a child. You'd think she would be one of the first.
The lady who looked worried about the flu jab may have a needle phobia. As with all phobias, not much based on logic. So they may have opted for it, knowing it's the best thing for them, but still fearful of the jab itself. My boss has an awful phobia of needles, has to always take someone with her when she needs a jab or blood test and has been known to lash out and swear etc at nurses before. Which is the complete opposite of who she is usually.
I'm not bothered by needles, but my arm was very sore after last year's jab. Was a bit swollen and red too, and like another poster, the pain will wake me up if I roll onto it in the night. Better than flu though, especially in this time of covid.February wins: Theatre tickets11 -
I've had no bother with my flu jab at all. I would have forgotten about it if it wasn't a topic on here.10

I've never had a flu jab as after discussing a swine flu jab (I had caring responsibilities and full time job at the time) when have gave me the pros and cons I was still uncertain, his response to my question of would he have the jab if he had my medical history and his reply was no.
That has left me in a quandary about this one. Now. I have neither of those responsibilities but my health is worse. The thought of a bad reaction to a flu jab is scary as I already struggling to do things without adding to the problems.

Well this discussion on the thread has made me man up and book a flu jab, first ever! I have booked one at a local pharmacy to me for the 5th October although there were other appointments available sooner at ones further away. I am not a wimp when it comes to needles but I do have history of reacting to injections/medication, fingers crossed this doesn't happen this time.
I have seen a video from Doctor Vernon Coleman on a video host site Brand New Tube, it was a link sent via a blog I read. Not sure what to think of his opinion but it does give an alternative , medically qualified, view of what is happening. I totally agree with shielding, avoiding people, taking precautions re masks , sanitising etc but there has been a little niggling worry in the back of my mind about all these sudden changes in the law to prevent people meeting etc. I agree with governments giving out directions and advice but do all these have to be rushed into law? Ok there are many idiots who will ignore or flout the law/guidelines/advice or whatever label they put on it regardless if they are enforceable. Laws are enforceable at any time, not just for the period of Covid, and as such these hurriedly produced laws could in the future be used to control our movements and actions. I do not usually put anything remotely political on here but this has been a concern of mine that has been growing recently, what do others think? Am i being a member of the tinfoil hat brigade? Are my concerns a result of too much stress, lock down and worry over the last six months? Has anyone else had the unsettling feeling that the new laws are a worry for the future? If anyone wants to listen to the ideas of Dr Coleman I have put a link on the bottom of the post. I am still not sure what to think of his ideas but it is an alternative view and as such I thought I would see what others on here thought.

I thought I would see what others on here thought.FWI I watched a couple of his videos earlier this year and concluded that the late Dr Goebbels would have been impressed by the way that Mr Coleman mixes plausible explanations with his pet theories. I then checked him out on Wikipedia, noting both the cautions at the top of the entry and the stated fact that he's been both banned by the ASA and censured by the PCC.Without any comment whatsoever, I then suggested to my Lady Wife that she might care to take a squint at a couple of his videos, which she eventually did. Her reaction was that he was an expert self-publicist, whose every sensible viewpoint seemed to be balanced by a conspiracy theory. So there you go - one answer to your question

Elaine, you are not alone in wondering whether these new laws will just "go away" when the need for them has passed. Also, whether they've actually been thought through properly in the first place! If you do, you'll never sleep at night.Who was it who famously said something to the effect that a society doesn't lose its freedoms by having them taken away by its rulers, but rather by willingly surrendering them in return for protection from external threats?

Don't know, but I'm reminded of the fact that income tax was a "temporary measure" intended to cover the expenses incurred during the Napoleonic Wars...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)12
