DH and my results also negative, which is good (and expected).Re schools, yes, it is going to be very difficult and I don't know how effective it will be. We suspected that DD picked up this cold from nursery, and the nursery have solidified that thought. I updated them this morning, and confirmed we'd been tested and negative, and the responded to say that they had several other children off sick today with a cold also. She was only in for 2 mornings last week, and already caught a cold. Before lockdown, she went through loads. Catch one, recover, immediately caught another and so on. I can't see school being much better. Until her little immune system has strengthened and gone through most viruses, they catch everything going.I believe you are right about extremely vulnerable children. One of my colleague's DD falls into that category. Primary age. At the start of lockdown, their consultant warned them that catching it for her would almost certainly have tragic consequences, but when I asked her recently what they would be doing come September, she said the gov has declared it safe and she is under the same obligation to attend school as everyone else is. I doubt the consultant has changed his opinion though. She has 2 other primary aged children too, so even if she kept her vulnerable DD home and sent the other 2 in, she would still end up with similar risk exposure. It's a very difficult position to be in, as she and her DH have been juggling homeschooling and parenting, with their work commitments for months but they also can't do that indefinitely. Nor can they afford to lose an income. I don't know. There's no easy answer.February wins: Theatre tickets18

Can anybody see anything re a shortage of tin? Hearing rumours..
11 -
I heard something a few weeks ago about cans for fizzy drinks being scarce, but I can't remember why. I'll have a look.13

If there is a shortage of tins, then with winter and brexit we're going to be in a mess.

I think it was just for drinks/beer etc. moving away from plastic and glass bottles.
I'm frantically trying to freeze/bottle stuff from the garden so we have plenty available. Mum is vegan so I need plenty of fruit/veg so I can feed her. If I can't get round to it pretty soon and cut down the climbers, we'll have to get into the house with a machete but food garden is taking priority. I am telling everyone it is a wildlife garden while keeping quiet about murdering caterpillars on my brussel plants. Springwatch eat your heart out. Why can't they go and play in something else?13 -
Was it VJsmum getting 2l bottles rather than cans as soft drinks tins were suffering access to metal issues? So tin foil went onto the prepping list, for Christmas & (of course) lining our hats? I'm eyeing jam season where glass is important but will be adding more tinned goods.
Ah yes https://edition.cnn.com/2020/07/22/business/beer-shortage-aluminum-can/index.html
So, frankly more of an issue for beer this month, but it does look like there may be issues.15 -
Not me, DforV - don't drink fizzy drinks (though i have bought a pack for the kids with no issues - and tonic for my gin, of course
).
May start to quietly stock a few bits up though (fruit and veg, not fizzy drinks)I wanna be in the room where it happens14 -
Think I've had enough of "issues" for this year DfV...15

Just when you think you have a grip on everything (ish) something else comes round the corner trying to knock you down.
I have half a dozen plums ripe at the very top of the tree. I'm not wasting them so am devising a cunning plan to get them.14 -

Anyone going after sloes, please mind your paws and eyes. Vicious thorns on those darned things.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
