The garden has been very hit and miss this year. Some successes, some not. Some just struggling along. Oh well, something is better than nothing. The tomatoes are coming in now for us, though they are fighting off some disease or another. In other news, DD starting coughing in her sleep on Sat night. And then woke with a snotty nose and a high temp. So she was tested yesterday morning. Keeping fingers crossed it's just a normal cold. She did way better with the test than I thought she would, and it is nose swab only for children (no throat swab), but both nostrils rather than just one. Awaiting results still. But testing centre was busier. She is doing fine. The coughing has eased off, but she is very congested, and the temp is back within normal range. So hoping it is something else.February wins: Theatre tickets19

2023: the year I get to buy a car16 -
@euronorris I do wonder how many people are as good as you are with your family and bother with a test. If you test positive it means quarantine for you and your contacts. I can envisage some people not wanting themselves or their friends to be unable to go out and socialize so won't get tested. Such behaviour will not stop the spread and seeing recent pictures of seaside towns and beaches, people are not behaving responsibility.

@euronorris hope it is just a cold and you get a result soon.
My children will all be back at school from Wednesday ( inset days atm) I am back at work from Wednesday as well and OH is back at work now as he is a teacher.
I am actually more worried about colds and temps meaning I will have to continually take time off as they have not seen many others outside our family even after the restrictions on children under 12 were lifted.

@littlemoney that is a concern, and there is definitely a group of people who are very vocal about refusing to wear a mask, be tested or traced. But that is not us. I would never forgive myself if we passed it on to mine or DH's parents, and it was too much for them. Likewise, if I sent her into nursery/school and she passed it onto her peers and they, in turn, their parents or g/parents. Whilst a large number of people have been lucky and not known anyone to have it, let alone pass from it, we have known both. And my job deals with the finances of elderly people, in care homes. We have lost multiple clients to this. 2 in the last week alone. So my experiences have probably made me cautious than others.Anyway, I am pleased to report to DD's test has come through as negative! DH and I still waiting on ours, but expect the same. DD is tired, grumpy and cuddly. All the normal things for a 4 year old with a cold. But at least it isn't corona.Thank you for the well wishes xxFebruary wins: Theatre tickets16

@ziggy2004 I have similar concerns. There's plenty of other viruses going around, and flu too, as we get to the later part of the year. So my concern is that, as so many of the symptoms cross over, more and more people will go for testing to make sure it isn't coronavirus (as they have no other way to know), the testing system will become overwhelmed again and we'll go back to only testing those who are ill enough to be hospitalised with it.

@euronorris that's good news for your daughter.
The track and trace system is not fit for purpose now, what will it be like when we have the next phase of the virus. It's not a case of if we get another phase but when.

Thriftygifty said:I sorted out our first aid box and had 1 bottle of Benylin out of date and 2 baby snuffle rub tubs. You can take OOD medicines back to the pharmacist to dispose of. I haven't worked out quantities yet, Calpol is my concern as when this kicked off I saw on the news that one pharmacist up country was charging an eye watering amount for one bottle which I thought was disguising. Hayfever tablets for DH I need to look at as he has run them low and becomes a zombie when he's hit with hayfever/allergies. I've told my parents to try and get some back up medicine however my Mum is insistent that they can't from the doctors.
i can’t get paracetamol in the online shop but get store brand cold and flu tablets for 60p 2 packs (plus a calpol) in each order.Living the simple life16 -
Euronorris thats good news about your daughter.
I was reading the guidance for schools which was published on 7th Aug, i'm really not sure how its going to work. When DS was at nursery he was constantly sick with various things, which will result in self isolating constantly if the same happens at school until he/we are tested, how will this work with regards to DH job, he can not work from home, will his work put him down as sick and then if redundancy is on the horizon will this be used against him? Also his pay will constantly be affected. It also reads as no matter if your child or teacher is high risk they are still going, it must be awful for parents of children in the extremely vulnerable category. I guess wait and see how it pans out...I still don't know if we've made the right decision to send him.15
